Wonder if there are any contractors or suppliers who have a gut feeling on if material prices will come down or continue to go up in the near future? Trying to figure out if this is a good time to greenlight a kitchen remodel or if we should hold up and wait for materials to come down a bit.

Have a good contractor ready to go, but of course the supplier keeps telling us to go now or prices will keep going up.

It depends on what exactly your remodel consists of. Wood is not bad, sheetrock, tile and most electrical devices and lights are within a normal range. Copper is through the damn roof and so is PVC and steel conduit but its not like you need a ton of that for a kitchen. Paying an extra few hundred on wire really isn't that bad compared to the entire scope of the job. The hardest thing is going to be your cabinets/appliances being in stock. Make sure you possess those things as quickly as possible or you are going to sit with a half finished kitchen for 6 months.

That is an issue because the supplier Mrs. Claws is working with keeps increasing the cost of the cabinets.

As most guys that have gone through a kitchen remodel likely know it takes quite a bit of time for most women to select what they want in any remodeling project, magnify that by 100% when it comes to a kitchen remodel, but as most guys that have been involved in any relationship for any period of time know, you just let them work through it while trying to keep the costs somewhat reasonable.

Can almost guarantee that she will take one look when it's done and say how much she hates everything, but at this point I just want it done.

I know they used to be quite a bit more expensive but a custom milling shop that makes their own cabinets might be one of the better options these days. They can make adjustments for you if need be and their stuff is not stuck on a boat where it is exponentially increasing in price as it sits there. Their material is also not osb crap with a nice shiny veneer over it.

The kitchen remodel I worked on yesterday had freaking IKEA cabinets being installed. I have seen one of those kitchens before and they do not look built to last.

It's transitory!

Honestly, I don't think things will get better or come down for a while.

The price of everything is way up, I dont think it is coming down anytime soon. The price of oak is through the roof, Copper, pvc too. Cabinet prices havent moved much. If you are local Id use Tri star in new lenox..real nice custom cabinets at a very good price. The porcelain, quartz, ceramic havent gone up obscenely like everything else. Let me know if you need any subs, ive got plenty.

Just last night she said, "Not if I still like the cabinets as much as I did before", so just gonna keep the money parked in savings until she can give me a final project price. At least her cronies talked her out of the white cabinets, which I thought would be a nightmare to keep clean and would not be good when we can finally unload the place in 5-10 years and get the hell out of Rockford.

Finally found a kitchen design guy that put together the design she wanted and have my contractor guy we've used before, but just can't get a final decision on the cabinets, and if I walk in and make the call I will know I will hear, "I don't know why you picked the cabinets out, I never liked them", for the rest of the time we are in the house.

312 is a construction guy, Hatchet is a wealthy man from the financial sector.

Women want and need something to complain about. Better to give them relatively meaningless, low-hanging fruit like poor interior design choices than have them complaining about you paying the baby sitter for road-head when you drive her home or that time you got the nanny pregnant or that time you fucked her sister. It's all about pawn sacrifices to protect the truly important peccadilloes.
