When I was a kid I lived for Cubs baseball, would hurry home from school to catch the last few innings on good 'ole WGN, and then be in the backyard with my buddies copying all the players batting stances and pitchers deliveries, would spend the summer trying to get all the Cub players baseball cards, pour through the box scores in the paper, was pretty much obsessed.

Today, find myself not caring one bit about the Cubs, have a slight interest in watching the Sox early to see what they have, but my interest in the MLB has waned significantly.

Theo, Crazy Joe, JHK, extra innings "Manfred's man", emergence of leadership culture tone professionalism unity bs worship, ZZ/Spiegel in the booth, BLM on the pitchers mound, haven't put the tiniest dent in my baseball enthusiasm.

Yes a combination of the Cubs falling off a cliff the last couple years, and players hitting into the shift has really ruined my excitement for baseball.

Also, I work too much, and family time is more important than sitting down for a 3 hour sports game.

Unless it’s football season.

Or director’s cuts of comic book movies.

Speaking of falling off a cliff.

My hype level for that movie is basically non existent at this point.

It's a variety of reasons for me and the new rules aren't going to help.

Mainly yes.

Also not that happy it could erase the Snyderverse.

Also, there are rumors of a female led justice league being established in the movie that includes Superwoman, Batgirl, and Black Canary.

That seems kind of cringe if that team takes over for the original characters.

That's beyond cringe. I guess they want to replicate the success of the all female Ghostbusters.

I think the Discovery merger with WB may be pumping the brakes on some of the madness tho.

They’ve already gotten rid of one WB movie executive, could move on from Ezra Miller, and the race swapped JJ Abrams produced Clark Kent project they were working on may not be going forward. .

I think instead they’ll go with the Michael B Jordan produced story about Val Zod.

Which could be pretty cool honestly.

Looks like we are apathetic about baseball.

Hard to get excited about Cubs baseball this year when they have a roster of no names.

And w/ the White Sox is how will they fuck this up.

For me baseball, similar to crickets, cicadas, and late sunsets, is one of the backgrounds of summer. I'll nap to it on saturday afternoons, have on in the background when driving or doing other things, and be somewhat aware of who is where in the standings. Unless it is pennant chase or playoff time, I rarely sit and stare at an entire baseball game.

Baseball is trying really hard to make me hate it, but I just can't. I'm incredibly fortunate in that my wife enjoys baseball. We will put either the Cubs or Sox on and life ensures that it's background, but that's ok....NFL isn't any different.

Baseball means summer is coming....I still love that.

yes...when I was living there I use to always think of baseball and spring/summertime when the weather got better. Baseball was like hope for better times coming.

The magic has been written out(the DP with the 2nd baseman in the horizontal after the throw, the catcher blocking the plate, hitters walking to the plate with a touch of fear without armor) and the magic has been evolutionized into 3 gigs of sabremetrics where most notably, a walk is as good as a hit and a K is just another out.

Magic isn't in a juiced ball or launch angle. It's in a rally or killing a rally with defensive gems. I admit baseball is played the right way. But it isn't played the correct way. I'm almost embarrassed to say that I was an Earl Weaver fan, who invented the station to station theory. I had no idea it would get from that to this. But I guess it was always inevitable.

The only way out is to revamp the rule book and take the record book and put it on the shelf and forget about it. By this I mean having nine months of baseball is obsolete. 120 games is plenty. Even before the rules are rewritten that must be done.

there's too many regular season games. playoff baseball is still compelling but an 2pm getaway game #89 vs the mariners and i'll likely have my not interested sign out

I wonder how much is due to television viewing habits changing. Stuff is on demand now. Let's say your favorite TV show was Sunday nights and it's the most popular show on television. The cubs game is Monday night. No conflict back in 2000. But with on demand stuff in the 2010s that Sunday night show is in direct conflict with the cubs Monday night game if I the viewer make it that way. Too much stuff to compete against - viewers are more selective because there's so much content.

One of my favorite days of the year used to be my in-person roto fantasy baseball draft with my friends. Another one of my favorite days was when I could get the first fantasy baseball magazine sometimes towards the end of January. I would tear through the rankings making my own tiers coming up with my own draft strategy. One of my highlights of the day throughout the summer was getting home from hanging out with buddies, often intoxicated, getting something to eat and watching Baseball Tonight. Nowadays, our fantasy league folded and I haven't watched baseball highlights in years not to mention a game.

Agreed, often find myself dozing off on summer nights with Cubs game on in the background. There are not many people around that can or want to talk pitch to pitch strategy while watching games, usually only do that when I make my yearly summer trip up to Minneapolis to take in a game with my brother, so the lack of opportunities to critically watch games with people that understand the game and know how it should be played also likely contributes to my lack of engagement.

No matter how much Manfred is trying to ruin the game, what still drives my passion for the sport is following the failures and shortcomings of the White Sox on a daily basis.

I'm kind of shocking myself. I cannot turn on ESPN or any local sports segment after the Sox blew yesterday's game. I guess some things haven't and probably never will change.

No matter how stupid management is.
