There is a format to writing an obit. Schefter didn't know it, or chose not to follow it.

Secondly, I think we can both agree that Schefter's main purpose was to break the untimely news of Haskins death.

With that being the case, Haskins career had NOTHING at all to do with how he died. And should have sent in a second or 3rd tweet follow up.

Apply the same to OJ if he dies in a similar fashion, and Schefter is again going for the first to report angle.

This isn’t an obituary. And there is literally nothing wrong with it. Haskins was a star in college. Not in the NFL. Schefter was noting this for his audience, who might not immediately recognize the name since he hasn’t been in the spotlight for awhile. If you are offended by it, you are being petty.

But as a journalism major, I certainly understand why others are offended.

Schefter got a key fact incorrect, while including incorrect career info in his haste to be the first to report on the death of Dwayne Haskins.

He came across as a petty and unprofessional douchebag whose tweet could once again be construed as having been ghost written by a Washington football team executive.

For someone like me who doesn't follow football, if he just called him "a quarterback" I would wonder why I had never heard of him.

I clearly pointed out two instances in his original tweet that were not accurate. For two guys who are most often offended about "Drumpf and the innaccuracy of reporting done on his part, this is an incredibly odd take from both of you.

I don't know what else to say at this point.

Like I said, without mentioning that he struggled, someone who follows football to the degree I do- or to a lesser degree- would wonder who the hell he was and where he played. I guess he could have called him a "backup quarterback" but that's less accurate, isn't it?

Simple revision to "who played with Washington and Pittsburgh" would have been fine. Your level of care doesn't change whether he sucked there or thrived there.

And yes, a lot of this is because the blue-checks have it out for Schefter and are always looking for a reason to pounce. It still wasn't a great lede.

The last part isn't a surprise about ANY of the alleged NFL insider talking heads. It's amazing how much credibility they are presumed to have. Why he felt the need to lard on here is an indictment of how casual those guys are especially when racing to notably break news first on Twitter.

First, as others as have stated, Twitter is not an obituary.

Seacrest, you have stated several times that his failed NFL career has nothing to do with his death. That may not be true. I stated earlier that his last Instagram post and the fact that he died in in such a preventable, violent manner may indicate this was intentional.

If that is the case, his struggling NFL career is indeed very relevant to his death.

Schefter described the career arc of a quarterback in the mildest of terms, and you somehow believe it's journalistic malfeasance. He's an entertainment reporter who horse trades to be the first with breaking NFL news. That's his brand. Being first. And he's covering the NFL, he's not on the Spotlight team making sure that the nuclear plant isn't dumping waste near an orphanage.
