my wife is dogged in her devotion to watching Oscar movies prior to the awards. This was one I actually wanted to watch with her. She flipped in on sometime when I was not around and said she turned it off half way through.

It was interesting, but just bleak.

Was this up for an Oscar? I don't think it was as good as the original.

Anyway, there were several movies nominated that I had never even heard of, including the winner. They only exist on these various streaming platforms. I'm not into TV enough to pay for anything but Netflix and my wife is always agitating to dump that.

I saw part of an interview Dave Rubin did with David Mamet and Mamet said something like, "The Oscars? Nobody has seen any of these movies. You know why? Because nobody comes home from work and says, 'Hey honey, let's watch a movie about racism tonight!'"

For me it’s more of an apathy towards a slow moving drama.

Take “The Power of the Dog” for example.

Looks like a very well shot movie with a great cast, and the reviews have been overwhelmingly positive.

But I know I’ll just end up looking at my phone more than the movie.
