Occasionally come across native Canadians who are Islanders fans. I assume they grew up, came of age as hockey fans during the Islanders early 80's multiple Stanley Cup run.

The '80s Isles had a lot of Saskatchewan players, if I'm not mistaken, so there was an affinity there.

Sucks about Bossy. His career was too short.

That could explain it. strange phenomenon for folks from the hinterlands of Kanaydia to be all in on the 2nd most popular New York team. Islanders were, I believe, a de novo franchise, so there wasn't the Nordiques to Colorado effect of fans of a formerly Canadian team following them to their new city.

Right, they were one of the expansion teams that popped up to block the WHA (Atlanta, Long Island, Kansas City, Washington).

Gillies and Trottier were both from Sask., and the Sutters were from Alberta, so lots of Prairies guys all around. Bossy's first language was French, though, I believe. Guess that explains dying from smoking, huh.

makes sense that someone pre-Patrick Roy would have better scoring stats than players who played most or all of their careers against more advanced/better goaltending.
