Caught the last two innings on radio, solid win. Tampa has run out of depth, especially pitching depth; their AAA has been getting shelled after going something like 80-40 last year.

If Thompson can keep giving the Cubs two solid long relief outings a week, he is going to be an important piece even if they don't put him in the rotation.

Amazing Michael Hermosillo is getting platoon time in CF with a career .174 ba. Last 2 years .146 ba. His sole purpose is to shield JHK from additional ab and slowing down his inevitable nosedive.

Tonight they started Heyward against the Rays' opener, then pinch-hit Wisdom for Heyward in the 4th against a decent lefty in Josh Fleming. Wisdom promptly cranked one out, and then amazingly played the rest of the game in CENTER FIELD. Not left, with Happ moving to center, but center himself.

That seems like a test for what they might be able to do if they DFA Hermasillo or Ortega on May 1.

Yeah I had to double take on seeing Wisdom catching a ball in center.

They cannot do that much.

There isnt a decent CF on the team.

Wisdom certainly has hitting flaws but (Cubs 815 ops) looks like Babe Ruth next to the 2 weak hitters they had out there in CF.

Wonder if Wisdom will be praised for going to CF as a hero like JHK. Got to believe no. If some clown did I'm sure Wisdom would downplay, and deflect such nonsense.

Kudos to Ross for realizing he needed some offense and Heyward was not going to provide it.

We'll never know how Wisdom's move to center played out. It had to be common knowledge good athlete Wisdom could play a decent center. Why did it take so long . Will it stick. Teammates behind closed doors couldn't of been happy with the previous anemic hitters in CF ruining rallies. Why in the world did JHK bat behind Suzuki? With Ross forced to idolize JHK it should be but CF is far from settled.

5@5 talking about Wisdom in CF

Mully- Heyward's a good guy. God bless him Heyward's a good guy.

Signing that midget was a mistake. Maybe he’ll be bailed out by rain.

Villar was awful in the field but Stroman just got his dick kicked in for the 2nd straight start. Not impressed.

Hes better than average. A #2 starter easily

He is 61-60 for his career. 13-9 was his best season. Does not sound like a #2 starter to me

Stop using Wins to evaluate pitchers

So give me your evaluation professor

Hes good

and markets himself like a superstar

He's been on some pretty good teams over his career and he's a below .500 pitcher.

Chavez had made $23 million in his career with only limited success, and a lot of failure. "Innings eater" has been used as a cop-out excuse for bad money James Shields & Edwin Jackson. But Chavez is a true journeyman, mediocre, durable, cheap on baseball terms "innings eater".
