Why are we fighting to restrict player movement? This is the system that the owners created because they were giving 7 year contracts to bums. Teams aren't required to trade a player just because he asks them either.

No one is fighting to restrict. As a labor guy, I want the workers to get their money. The league is better with stability. They do to an extent but I would heavily incentivize players staying (while getting their money) if I was the league.

The problem that goes hand in hand with movement is the lack of personal and team rivalries. Everyone wants to play with his friends, like a little league draft writ large

The league has been trying to "heavily incentivize" players to stay with their team for years now. They continue to fuck it up. That's a league problem.

This starts with AAU. Everyone is friends with everyone. I don't personally like it, but it's not going anywhere.

Players can just be dicks and/or tank to force a trade. All while not taking a financial hit or push back from teammates. James Harden represents everything wrong with the NBA.

Players continue to do that because it works. Teams can fine or suspend a player for conduct detrimental to the team. No one enjoys losing money.

Its because the regular season is meaningless. That's where all these issues generally come from, even the over-the-top woke pandering was pushed so hard just to get people to watch otherwise irrelevant games. A random ass game between two teams this time of year in baseball is vastly more impactful than any NBA regular season game, despite the fact that baseball teams play twice as many games.

If weathering the season became a necessary priority to even have a shot at the dance you'd see an end to star stacking and much attention being paid to building a roster that can handle attrition. Also guys would develop some serious enmities towards each other, getting rid of these bullshit atmosphere where every is too bored to even have rivals anymore.

But there's no way to do it without going to a eight or even four team playoff. The league will never stand that. So it'll continue to circle the drain. Bit of a shame.

NBA’s best night wants no part of the NFL’s worst.

The NFL is racist to schedule programming against a predominately African American league in the NBA.

I know that's a joke but the leagues are much closer in terms of racial make-up than you'd think.

Oh for sure, without looking it up I assumed the NBA and NFL led in terms of percentage of African American players on rosters. I'd probably give the edge to the NBA but the NFL wouldn't be too far behind, to your point.

The largest average audience for the NBA play-in games was 2.7 million.

The debut of the USFL averaged 2.95 million.
