I don't think Florio considers himself to be or wants to be an insider. "Insiders" end up beholden to their inside sources and hesitate to be critical of teams.

Given the NBC gig alone I’m sure he has enough connections to know some things.

I don’t think he’s established residency at the NFL GM glory hole like an Adam Schefter, but I don’t think the guy is completely ignorant.

Florio, and other NFL types are likely basing this on the very real results from last season where Fields looked inept at times.

One of the more positive things I'm taking from the genesis of the Poles era is that he has been ruthless in his evaluation of the current roster, and is quickly moving on from guys that were stealing money last year. Poles has no attachment to Fields and he likely will have no problem moving on from him quickly if he does not show a vast improvement early this year.

In many way next year will provide the franchise with a rare opportunity to completely reset the roster with what will most likely be draft picks near the top of each round and with tons of cap space to overpay for the limited number of free agents that are young enough and good enough to actually make a difference.

Expect a choppy moments with a new staff & playbook but today's minicamp practice would generously be described as a rough ride for QB Justin Fields, especially in 7-on-7, a drill heavily tilted to favor the offense.

Poles has set this up so that if Fields sucks in 2022, the Bears will have a top 3 pick in 2023.

That’d be a very Bears move. They’d probably trade up for him.

The Bears have never developed a star QB. What makes you think they will now?

Twitter people take any criticism of Fields very personally.

There is a clear effort by certain portions of the media to get him over. There is a fluff story about him damn near every day.

I would still be concerned with where his head is at leadership wise. He had zero problem letting Nagy take the blame for his shortcomings. I don't care how bad of a game plan Nagy put together, a rookie starting his first game has no business having an opinion on it. He has no experience and no point of reference. There was an old saying baseball coaches would say to their players when they bitched about anything regardless of its validity. "If you don't like it, play better." If Poles finds a way to kick his ass to the curb then I will actually be scared that the Bears have found a competent GM and might actually build a solid team.

The problem is people will say he didn't have any weapons (or line, etc) so he'll get a pass. (Unlike Miami, where they have set it up so Tua has absolutely no excuses if he doesn't perform.)

That's fine just as long as Poles isn't one of the people saying that.

7-on-7 is heavily, heavily slanted to the offense. This was a particuarly rough outing for that offense. I reported what I saw. And I said to expect choppy moments. Sorry it doesn't fit the narrative you're looking for.

Genuinely asking what was choppy. Late to throws? Inaccurate? Not in sync with the receivers?

Brad Biggs

All of that. Pulling the ball down and taking off. Turnovers.

Pulling the ball down and taking off during 7 on 7's? Poles might be working the phones to get him out of town by next week if that is true.

If he is not 100% behind Fields, he should be doing that.

Fields would be the #1 QB in this draft and might have gone 1/1. They would easily get back a #1 + for him and might even get back their two 1s.

NFC coordinator to
@TomPelissero
: Malik Willis "a better prospect than Trey Lance was a year ago and a better prospect than Justin Fields was a year ago"

Trade Fields and a #1, to move up and draft Willis...and re-start the QB on a rookie contract clock.

I'm kidding...

What kind of bullshit are they slinging that any QB in the current draft is a better prospect than Fields. Questionable if any of the QB's in this draft should be taken before the 3rd round even. Maybe Fields should not have cost 2 first round draft picks; but he's the Bears guy and they better support him 169% or they're dooming Fields or any young NFL QB to failure no matter their talent level.

I agree.

Poles has stated he wants more draft picks to rebuild the team.

Fields is the most valuable asset in his possession to achieve this goal.

A bunch of NFL analysts are saying teams are willing to give up two #1s or a #1 and a #2 just to move up and pick Ridder or Corral, neither of whom is as highly regarded as Fields. By trading Fields, Poles could move into the first round of this year's draft, obtain an additional #1 pick in next year's draft, and still have a top 5 pick in 2023 to select the newest QB of the Bears future. Unless Poles truly believes Fields is a generational talent, this is the smart move. If Fields sucks again in 2022, his trade value will be significantly diminished.

Seattle would probably do it. Their line may be a shit show that they are working on fixing but they also have two guys you can fuck it and chuck it to in Metcalf and Lockett.

The QB from this draft that is going to fall off the radar completely and sit behind a good vet and shock the world in a few years is the kid from North Carolina.

No team is trading 2 first round picks for a QB the bears are giving up on after one year.

You couldn't even get a (single) 1st now for Fields.
