I can't believe how many fanboy cucks think Rizzo is worth a qualifying offer or at the very least 17 mil per year. He has been a steaming cart of horse shit the last 2 years, is an awful leader and can't stay on the damn field. He had a nice little run but why would anyone pay him based on that instead of based on him being an average at best player right now.

I don't get it either. Bad backs usually don't start improving the older you get.

I don't need to pay for the memories. They aren't going anywhere. The Cubs didn't need to give Jake 8 or whatever million for me to remember how awesome he was a few years ago. Get what you can get. The next group is forming. Start working on surrounding Davis with more elite peers.

Some people are talking as if a compensation pick for KB, Rizzo and Baez is greater in value than what those three bring back.. that can't be true

It is true when you have zero chance of signing them.

Oh there is a very good chance of Baez and Rizzo signing..........the 20 mil qualifying offers. That would be a no brainer for both of them so they could have another prove it year. KB is the only one that would get that offer and decline it.

I think this next off season is going to be another depressed year for baseball free agent contracts because of the likely labor unrest. I don't think it will be a matter of low offers but NO offers until things clear up.

Agree with ya on KB, Rizzo and Baez..I just want em gone.. I think we'll do good on Kimbel and Hendricks

KB is 13th in the NL in OPS, by any measure that certainly qualifies as having a "good season".

He most certainly makes sense, and is an upgrade, for a team like the Giants. He plays 3b until Longoria comes back and then rotates between 1b and LF after that.

I don't think any Cubs fans are expecting the Padres to send over MacKenzie Gore and CJ Abrams for Rizzo, but to act like the Cubs are trading valueless guys and that contending teams don't have use for them is just ignorant of baseball.

He's soft as shit, he hits poorly when men are on. I'm not saying he has no value, it's just a fraction of what it was 3 or 4 years ago..very over rated ballplayer IMO.

we're talking about Baez here, right? one of the worst hitters ive ever seen. his Sammy Sosa Syndrome is progressing rapidly. 1-4 with 3 strikeouts and a 400 ft homerun in the 8th as the Cubs lose 8-1.

The Mets could use Baez to play either 2B or 3B with Lindor, McNeil, and Alonzo. Baez said last winter that he would move to 2B if the Cubs acquired Lindor, they are good friends. Get the equivalent of a 3rd round pick back for him out of the Mets High-A team, plus the money savings, and call it a day.

The worst thing would be for Baez to accept a QO in Chicago for next season. Then you still don't get the draft pick, his trade value will be worse a year from today, and you are out $18-19M for a two outcome hitter on a fourth place team. Better to stick Hoerner at SS, and spend $12M on a starting pitcher and $6M on a low-strikeouts 2B.

Does Hoerner have the arm to play SS at the major league level?

Many believe the Mets are likely to trade for Bryant, but I can see San Francisco making a move for him. I don't know which team can offer better prospects.

While you're not wrong in a practical sense, the Cubs still have to play 162 games a year. The Rickets have already cried poor, and Wrigley ticket prices are among the most expensive in baseball. In terms of having the most value to the Cubs, it might be to keep Baez, let him do his thing where he hits homers, tags out baserunners, and strikes out 180 times. The Cubs still have to fill seats and play the games. Maybe in that regard, keeping Baez is the best thing for the organization. Barring lightning in a bottle, the Cubs don't appear to be playing October baseball anytime soon, so having a guy who goes '1-4 with 3 strikeouts and a 400 ft homerun in the 8th as the Cubs lose 8-1' isn't a bad thing. This is especially true for a guy who Cubbie Nation already loves. Baez forgets how many outs there are, and other than David Ross and a few people here, nobody seemed to give a shit.

I get your point. But Baez is going to be a miserable fuck on a fourth place team, especially if they trade Contreras at next year's deadline. Nobody will watch, Baez or no Baez. I have had MLB.tv for six years now, and even I'm not going to renew because I want to see what happens with the labor stoppage and free agency before I give MLB $130 again.

Marquee is a lost cause if there is a substantial labor stoppage next year. The entire business model was based on Sinclair buying WGN and making Comcast and RCN carry it as a basic tier station to get $20/year from everyone not watching the games. They never dreamed that the Tribune TV station purchase was so egregious that even the Trump administration told Sinclair to fuck off.

Wouldn't the odds on favorite at thig point be that a major labor stoppage is going wipe out the entire next season?

I think so, but then if that's true you don't worry about Baez and Rizzo and instead focus on trading Contreras and maybe even Hendricks for as many quality pieces as possible which are either top 20 prospects or don't need to be put on a 40 man this fall.

To me, you trade Hendricks and Baez to the Mets and Bryant and Davies to the Giants. Then Contreras to the Blue Jays, and Kimbrel to the Rays or Astros. Totally clear house, wait for the strike/lockout to end, and buy a shitload of free agents at the end of 2022 to along with your prospects.

Does the prospect of a lockout hurt their trade value? I mean if the Mets or Giants have guys who will be ready to play in 2 years wouldn’t they be better off waiting?

KB is down to 14th. Castellanos is 4th, The Schwarbino 7th. Tatis is 1st for the Sox fans lurking here. lmbo

Yes because one half season always defines a player. The last few seasons he has been over .300 with some power. Fangraphs has him as the #11 prospect in the Braves system. I would say for a player like Pederson they got a pretty good return on the trade.

He's the number 12 prospect in the Braves organization. Funny to see a high-roller organization like the Cucks selling off pieces like the DBacks. lmbo

His ceiling is probably Dan Vogelbach. But it's not like there is any substantial 1B prospect in the Cubs pipeline unless Cassie turns out to be Soler-like in RF and gets moved to 1B/DH.

If anything, Ball replaces Jared Young (15th round pick in 2017, just turned 26), who had a whopping .616 OPS at AA and is hitting well now after missing the first half of the season with some sort of injury.

Send Baez to Boston, he can play second.. They get Sale back in a couple weeks and could win it all.
