They need to stop with these side series. All of them have been bad. Disney ruins everything.

Moon Knight is 2022 version of Great American Hero

The best superheroes have compelling origin stories--Hulk, Spider-Man, X-Men, Iron Man, Batman, etc--and Moon Knight simply lacks one. The reliance on Egyptian mythology to structure the story is kind of uninteresting, as are the mythological figures themselves. Further, the CGI used to visualize them on screen isn't particularly well done and, at times, seems downright amateurish.

Another problem with the story is the use of the seemingly disembodied voice to convey that Isaacs' body is actually being co-inhabited by another character. From what I've seen so far, that part of the plot is so clumsily handled that it strikes me as comic rather than dramatic.

Finally, Isaacs' character is kind of trite. We've seen mild-mannered figures have magical powers thrust on them in other series--from Superman to Spider-Man--and the overall storytelling and acting involved with these metamorphoses is often handled much more deftly than it is in this show.

My kids are entertained by it, though, so I guess I'll keep plodding forward with it.

I think a remake of that show would be a big hit.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought rather than being co inhabited, he actually has split personality disorder, which I thought was a really cool way for a pacifist to psychologically disassociate himself
from killing people. Maybe I have the whole underlining of the show wrong as I thought the Egyptian god aspect were just voices in his head of a mentally unstable guy who works in a museum.

I thought it all was a very interesting story that he was a mentally ill person who also has superpowers...except we don't really know if he has them or everything we are seeing is in his head.

I’ve enjoyed it, but the 3rd episode was definitely a step down from the first 2. The plot’s getting a bit out of hand and I think the charm/fun/whatever of Isaac’s character loses a lot when he’s more Marc than Steven.

Yeah, I don't know one way or the other about the split personality since I've only seen about 1.5 episodes. It seems likely that this is the case, but again, this is another recycled idea that we've encountered over and over. If the Egyptian mythology stuff is imagined as well, that could end up being more interesting, I suppose, since it changes the origin story and could become a commentary on the idea of superherodom itself. So far the execution in so much of this just seems very low-level to me.

After the meh 3rd episode, the 4th and 5th were good. Nice for superhero show (so far) to have the best parts be drama/weirdness and not action. The more they let Isaacs act, the better it is. Seems like they have a lot to get through in the last episode, something a lot of these D+ shows have had problems with.

Yeah I hope they stick the landing as well

I watched the last episode with my boy. It seemed good enough. I've missed a lot of explanation in episodes 3-5 so I'm confused.

My kids seem to have lost interest and haven't been watching lately, so neither have I. One of them did say that he might try to catch up on the past few episodes over the weekend.

That's understandable, these Marvel D+ haven't really figured out pacing yet. Show 1 is the introduction and there's a lot of interesting things going on. The 2nd show rehashes the 1st for a little too long before it does new stuff, but still cool. The middle until the penultimate episode keep stacking tension but in a fairly meandering way. Then the final episode, while still good to great, feels rushed to resolve everything. You wouldn't notice as much if it was a movie and not episodic (well maybe the rushed ending) or if you binged it and it wasn't an episode a week thing. I do think Moon Knight and Loki were both much better with it because Hiddleston and Isaac were good enough actors and really into the role to carry the middle.

As to the series, I thought I'd hate Ethan Hawke at the beginning, but as it went on I appreciated his villain. Most villains when they raise a god of death don't immediately say "I totally get it if you want to kill me, you probably should." There's usually some weasely negotiation, but Harrow is down for the cause. I missed Steven's boss at the museum, she was cool. Taweret's avatar was a good design, kinda Falcon-ish, but not overdone. That's a lot of dead gods. Didn't overdo the action, it had the usual mowing down the mooks before the boss fight, but it was fast and introduced the new avatar's powers. Of the D+ ones, I wouldn't say it was the best, but I would say it's the one I'm most interested in seeing a second season. There's a lot more interesting stuff left in Moon Knight

I totally forgot I hadn't watched the finale. because most of the show has been boring and uninteresting. So I watched it. The whole thing is ok. I definitely won't be anticipating the 2nd season but will likely watch it.
