Not a good start to this season. It's partially because of the limitations of a prequel but nothing really interesting is happening that you couldn't guess from what we know about Breaking Bad. I can't stand the Hamlin storyline. It's pointless and illogical and ruins any potential reason to feel sorry for whatever happens to Kim. The only thing I've liked so far was what Huell said to Jimmy in the car because it describes the major problem that Better Call Saul has had since the Chuck-Jimmy story ended.

I agree and am thinking that Gilligan will get more adventurous with the timelines. There's no rule that says he has to make this season or the BCS arc end at the beginning of BB. He can show Saul at any point within or even after (Gene) the BB universe.

like a lot of shows are, this has been stretched farther than it needed to be. at most it should've been 3 seasons, possibly 4 if they had more to expand on. but pulling this into a bloated 6th season proves that no matter how great a writer you are, you fall into the same traps as shittier writers do.

i was reading a brief "review" of ozark pt. 2, and they used the word "brilliant" to describe the show ("ozark"). if that's what is considered brilliant now...then this show can't even be categorized.

Ive been saying the same thing. Season 1 and 2 could have been wrapped up in one 6 episode season.

I think at some point we wanted to see the Saul from Breaking Bad. Here we start with a wimp and when we finally think he's getting there, he's playing childish games with his main nemesis like take my car keys and plant powder in his gym locker.

And in a snap of a finger his main nemesis is Hamlin again? Don't buy it.

Too bad the only interesting character they kill off in the second episode this season. At least there is Lalo and the Salamanca's who are good characters.

Don't give 2 shits about Huell and the other BB extras who have some cult like following.

btw - where is RFDC in this thread? He sucks off BB every chance he gets. His silence speaks volumes about this show.

Lalo may be my favorite character across both shows. I could not care less about the Hamlin bullshit relative to whatever Lalo is doing.

I need to rewatch the Season 4 finale. I had forgotten that Lalo had obtained information about the superlab from Werner (which led to his death) and that he knew of Werner's wife.

i have enjoyed all the episodes this season so far, but last nights was a bit sleepy in my opinion. Lalo was worth the price of admission in whatever scene he is in, but the rest of this episode felt like a lot of extended filler to me. I know some will say the whole series has been extended filler but for the most part i have enjoyed it all.

This last episode better be amazing to make up for how terrible this season has been so far. I know it's a fake season finale next week but so far through 6 episodes it's been a huge waste of time.

Yeah it has been really disappointing. Most of the episodes are just filler with like a couple mins worth of decent stuff.

"We made a really cool and original character in Lalo with a nearly unlimited storyline potential because he was mentioned with one sentence in all of Breaking Bad. What should we do with him in the last season?"
"How about we send him on a Euro Trip where he gets 3 minutes of screen time an episode?"

Don't read this if you haven't seen the latest episode.

I think the end of the last episode may have been my least favorite part of the entire Breaking Bad universe. Kim is on the way to likely get her dream job and do exactly what she has been wanting to do the entire time we've known her. She's literally in the car doing it. The stupid and pointless plan that her and Jimmy are on goes a little south and Jimmy calls her to tell her on one of the most important days of her life and then she throws it all away so she can deal with a plan that they shouldn't be doing anyways because Howard isn't that bad and it's also so complicated that it's only going to get worse as they make desperate moves to try and save it. Whatever happens to her that causes her to not be involved with Jimmy once he meets Walt is will deserved. I felt far more sympathy for Nacho than I will for her.

This should clear up any confusion people had that thought BCS was better or equal to Breaking Bad.

Not even close.

what's the difference between that and jimmy getting his own dream job in season 1 just to throw that away for a stupid embezzling scheme.

It may been partially because we always knew exactly what Jimmy would become but there never seemed to be a pretense about Jimmy that he wanted or cared about doing the right thing or being a force for good or that he had any sense of morality. In earlier seasons, I remember Kim getting mad at Jimmy for things that weren't anything as close to as terrible as what they are doing now. Now, she's the one actively pushing for them to destroy Howard's life for no good reason. If she was just a bad guy then that's fine. In the same episode, she is proud of how she is helping people, and elated that she gets a chance to be involved in a organization designed to make real change to the point where she is talking about how important Howard has been in her life and then she throws it all away to try and fake evidence with a judge because he has a broken arm.\

my guess is that's why they started adding the backstory of her mother. she was getting mixed signals from her and maybe they're showing that kim gets pulled away from good intentions when she starts becoming influenced by someone else. someone she wants to please.

Couple of thoughts (with spoilers)...

Did we know Kim was from Nebraska? Will that have any connection to Saul being assigned to the Cinnabon in Omaha? (And we saw the the vet has the business card of the vacuum salesman.)

last nights show was shit as much as this season was. nothing happened again. pretty stupid to have the entire season hang on some beverly hills cop prank on Hamlin. At least Banana in the Tailpipe was funny.

RFDC wrote:

That's been the entire series. 90 percent filler and 10 percent show. what a disappointment.

Ya I found that cheap when they did that in the start of last nights episode.

They have time to nail the ending but I'm getting the strong suspicious that BCS will go down as a great storyline between Jimmy and Chuck and the show was useless since then outside of "Remember this guy from BB, well here he is!" and Lalo was kind of cool.

He gave Saul something to dilate his eyes (not sure how that will factor into the D-day scam), but the other thing was seeing the vet's black book, which contains all the criminal contacts the vet had acquired, including The Disappearer (Robert Forster's character). That book is seen in the opening episode when they are clearing out Saul's house, so presumably Saul buys it from him at some point.

Possibly buys the black book with the roughly 20k that the private investigator saw him taking out and took pics of him to share with Howard.

I’m encouraged that next week’s mid-season finale was written and directed by Thomas Schnauz, the same person who did last season’s excellent first episode (Magic Man). I rewatched that to refresh my memory on some details and was struck by how good it was compared to most of this season.
