The ump behind the plate was atrocious. He should be fired today.

The ump was calling it the same for both teams, he wasnt a factor. The probem is the cubs have a bunch of weak minded pussys on their team, that rather be hugged then beat down a team till they take their spirit away, sorta like what the cubs do to the fans.

I saw a interview with Lee this morning whining how they need support....what the fuck is he talking about, this team gets nothing but support....i interuppt this post to let everyone know DP-lee has into another DP, he just doesnt want to address the fact that he sucks. If that dickwad is on the team next year, I aint going to any games, plus I would see if anyone out there would be intrested in taking Z also, let someone else worry about his 2 cent brain.

I want to scream from the roof tops that you are wrong and that they will be fine. But I just can't. I truly hope we are both wrong, but last night was sickening and I know it was only one game, and I can't help but think they fold again tonight and go down 0-2 going back to LA.

When we get a real pitcher in the offseason to be our ace, instead of a regular season "ace" like Dempster (relying on a converted closer seems so stupid now) we'll look back at 2008 and laugh at ourselves for our outrageous expectations of this team. We'll be laughing if we have C.C. because just one ace pitcher will be all it takes with this team to get to the series, instead of a second consecutive flameout to a worst division in baseball western team.

The Dodgers were swept by the Mets in '06 and many of these young players were on that team. If they lose tonight I don't think it will be because they lost focus.

What will it be tonight? To cold for the girls, to windy, maybe to booie? Every chance any player on that team gets, they like to spout off about being professional, well act like one and shut all that shit out. Here, every player on that team could hate the fans, i could care less, if that meant they would win, hate the fans all you want. I have been a cub fan for 37 years, if they want a hug, then they need to stop kicking me in the nuts, even trade. Shut up and win fuckers.

By the way, why do they keep showing that raggy old lady with the dumb fucking hat on all the time. I am tired of seeing her and you think one line drive foul ball could get her. Dont show the fans, show the players in the dugout with the look of "we suck" on their face. If i want to see some wrinkled od fuck, i will drive over to the VFW on lady night.

Dumpster is actually a converted starter to closer to starter. Either way, he has no balls and sucks.

The only thing Dumpster did this year was make sure with a 17-6 record is make sure the cubs will overpay for him and go 12-14 next year.

no, no he doesn't suck...he's a third starter at best in a good rotation. Which the Cubs don't have...which is why he became their defacto ace...which is why they're done...

Sure, but you always have to be careful of these out of the blue good years from these guys in a contract year.

Really Choker? You figure that all by yourself or did someone have to tell you. What gave it away, only scoring two runs? 500 walks, what? Shut up dumbass, go skip somewhere else.

Quote:
"It's tough because we got out to a 2-0 lead against a good team and a really good pitcher who is throwing the ball as well as anybody right now, and unfortunately, it came down to my lack of execution that put is in a hole," he said. "I feel I really let the team down tonight."

Get rid of him, he is taking heat for his bad start, doesnt he know its the fans booing that made them lose?

Quote:
"It's very tough to hit that slider because you don't know if that slider is going away or coming inside," Soriano said. "Especially him, he hides the ball very good."

Oh what the fuck? it wa 6 inches off the plate in the dirt, its hard to hit for a real hitter, for you, its easy for him because he doesnt have to throw a strike.

Quote:
first baseman Derrek Lee, who walked, singled and hit into a double play. "I never even thought about last year. We were pretty fired up. Today, we wanted to get that first one. It didn't happen. Turn the page and come back tomorrow."

The talk of a loser.

By the way, Lou is 0-4 in the playoffs as cubs manager, the odds say they have to win.

I'd like to see a right handed pitcher that throws a slider that "is coming inside" to a right handed hitter.

everybody got on my case about wanting Soriano to get injured...this is why a player's regular season stats are all but meaningless if they are counteracted by a player's playoff stats. Soriano got strikes to hit in the regular season. He doesn't get them in the playoffs because he hasn't proven he can lay off of anything. This is why I was ripping Soriano all season. I don't hear his defenders now.

Well CoF, I have been a Soriano defender, and as frustrated as I am with last night, he was not the problem.

a leadoff man-a good leadoff man takes 4-6 or more pitches to start the game, so everyone else in the order gets a good look at the pitcher. A good leadoff man can put down a bunt and is unafraid to run on the basepaths and use his speed. And usually leadoff men are good defensive players. We get none of those things with Soriano. It's not that he caused the Cubs to lose, it's more what he's not doing that contributes to the rest of the lineup that follows being bad. A good leadoff hitter sets the tone. See: Kenny Lofton, Bob Denier. Until further notice, that 2003 team has gone the farthest in the playoffs, even though they on paper were not as talented offensively as this team is. Here's another person's thoughts
deepcenterfield wrote:
The Cubs are ignoring the leadoffman’s primary objective: to get on base. To do this, taking pitches, a sharp eye and a willingness to sacrifice one’s power swing (pitch-to-pitch) is the discipline. In baseball history, the insertion of an ideal man, such as all-around nightmare Rickey Henderson, pesky-to-death Richie Ashburn or Reds machinist mate Joe Morgan, have been the kick-starters of numerous rallies and early showers for befuddled pitchers. The Cubs need that stuff again – like the 1984 Cubs utilized the talents of speedy Bob Dernier to get to NL MVP Ryan Sandberg to set up Gary Matthews – and I see a potential for that. Alfonso Soriano lacks patience and brings only one superior attribute to the top: power. Hisspeed is still good, but he will never achieve a 50-stolen base season with a high OBP. In fact, he hasn’t gone above .360 OBP in his recent career. Fonzi says, “Whoa!!!” to walking, and “Hey!!!” to swinging for the downs. Soriano's Numbers since 2000

Dempster was THE RIGHT CHOICE for the first game. He has been stellar at home and has been far away the most consistent pitcher all year. What did him in was that the Dodgers were very patient at the plate and Dempster couldnt locate his fastball. It happens sometimes.

That being said, the offense has to hit the fucking ball.

was Dempster the right choice? Yes. Saying he couldn't locate his fastball is a little misleading though. It's easy to be patient when the pitches were at their eye level...

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong. Relax RV. Dempster had the 5th lowest ERA in the National league. He had a great year and I am confident he will win game 5 at Wrigley, should the Cubs not win the next 3 straight. He was 14-3 at the Shrine this year, thats why he was given the nod in game 1. Plus, then it allows Zambrano to start the NLCS, if the first round goes 5 games. I certainly hope they keep Dempster and I expect he will be solid for years to come. Take a deep breath. Dempster was probably a bit rattled last night. He did not have his command. The pressure may be unspoken but it was there. Now, I expect that game to have woken them all up and I think you will see a far better performance tonight.

Good Lord, I wish it was unspoken.

Last year's series bedwetting should have woken them up.

All Cubs fans, now hear this! This is a warning for all of you who have been singing "Go Cubs Go" all season long, let me be the one to warn you that a new season begins tonight, and it matters NOT what your record was during the regular season! This has not worked out to the Cubs advantage! This is a bad match up, and you can feel it in the air as Game 1 approaches! You can almost taste in the air, taste the demise of the Chicago Cubs in the first series!

The Dodgers bring a lot to the table! Solid starting pitching! Good bullpen! Good hitting! A fantastic manager who has been through playoff wars over and over again, and knows how to handle the pressure cooker of playoff baseball! The Cubs have a beat up and unpredictable starting rotation! The Cubs have a lousy bullpen! The Cubs pound mediocre pitching, but get stymied by quality pitching! The Cubs have Lou Piniella at the helm, and we all know how he did in Seattle when the heat was turned on in the playoffs after romping through the regular season!

I have been saying it all summer! The day of reckoning is now at hand! No more fun counting Magic Numbers! No more comfortable division leads on the Milwaukee Brewers! No more games against Pittsburgh! Or Cincinnati! Or Houston! There are no more weak little sisters to pound on, now it is time to put up or shut up, and this team looks like it is past its peak! Now the Cubs are no better than any other post-season team!

This smells like trouble, the kind of trouble that future generations will look back on and shudder over - the kind of trouble that will cause little children and old men to openly weep! The expectations of this team are about to be shattered like delicate panes of glass, World Series talk will be snuffed out like a spent cigarette in a parking lot! "Go Cubs Go" can not save you now!

Woe unto you Cubs fans! The hour of destruction is at hand!

PANIC!! PANIC!! PANIC!!

AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH! ITS HAPPENING AGAIN!!!!
