My parents took me to see The Right Stuff at that artists theater on South Michigan when I was just a kid. I loved the movie and I thought Gus Grissom was cool. I hated his wife. The guy was a hero and she cut him down at his low moment

Gus Grissom and Earl Bass. I always imagined Fred Ward and Tommy Lee Jones were nemises.

He wasn't exactly a thespian, but he was in a lot of cool movies and seemed like a down to earth guy. The Right Stuff book was so much better than the movie, that I can't count that movie amongst my favorites. Escape from Alcatraz and Tremors on the other hand, were good fun.

I first remembered him in Uncommon Valor with Gene Hackman. Was good.

Sam Shepard/Chuck Yeager was much cooler imho.

Burt Ward is still kicking. He looks older than this actor who just passed away. RIP.
