Cannot go on my back deck without my neighbor wanting to chat, the guy just retired, and I know he was a workaholic, so feared he would be completely out of his mind bored soon, he's a great guy and has been a great neighbor, but I really do not have an interest in talking about trimming trees for an hour each time I let the dog out.

Just give him a voucher for golf lessons, that will keep him busy

My neighbor hated my kids. So we didn't talk much.

I work from home pretty often, and during Covid it was every day. I’m on calls at the top of most hours, so I have small windows to walk my dog.

It actually pisses me off now that if I have 30 minutes to walk my dog, I don’t want to spend 15 of it talking to all the retired teachers on my block. I now try to cross the street or use headphones and pretend I’m in a call.

I don't mind small talk with people who give zero fucks and like to say crazy shit just to make me laugh

I hate small talk with people who say anything depressing, negative, or any sort of serious in any sense. I got my own problems, no fucking way I want to hear yours.

Guess my situation is magnified by having a Chrysler employee in the house on the other side who is laid off and is usually sitting on his back deck looking like he wants to put a gun in his mouth.

Even my retired neighbor doesn't want to talk to that guy.

My wife will chat seldomly with our neighbors but the most they’ll get out of me is a waive and a ‘how’s it going’. I live in a really great neighborhood but I’m not real interested in becoming chummy with anyone here.


That said, I will usually offer assistance if I see something going on like a car breaks down and needs a jump, or they need to push it back into place. I’ve also helped fetch pets that have gotten loose which I’m more than happy to do. I’m just not super chatty with them. I’ve seen things blow up between neighbors throughout my life that start hanging out together and shit like that. And once that happens, it can get ugly because you live right next to them. So, I keep it casual, I have enough of my own friends already anyway.
