Lunar eclipse coming up a week from tomorrow. It's technically a partial as a teensy sliver will make it to the penumbra but something like 99% eclipse.

Saw Andromeda with binoculars last week down near Champaign. It was a fuzzy, long blob, and it took a while to see even though I was looking right at it, but, kind of like seeing the comets in the past few years, it gave me a little jolt as I realized what it was. Pretty amazing.

I think the binoculars were 7 x 35. They're pretty heavy, so Andromeda was bobbing up and down like Caller Bob's head in a Cub Park restroom, but it was still pretty cool.

Well thats a good thing to see. In really dark skies you might he able to see Andromeda with the naked eye. Maybe one of these days I'll have a star party and bring out my scope for yall to try out.

I believe totality starts around 120am Friday morning. The partial eclipse starts a few hours earlier.

That would be cool. I go to U of I and the forest preserve when they have viewing nights. It's really cool. Have not seen Andromeda through the scope, though.

Indoor plumbing has made great strides.

I won't say it's perfect but I'd look into it.

Keep your eyes open if you have clear skies over the next few days.
A G1 geomagnetic storm from a recent solar flare has disabled somewhere around 40 starlink satellites. They are currently falling out of the sky. They should burn up completely and pose no risk to ground level but you might just catch a satellite breaking up and creating a spectacular fireball in the sky.

There was a big ass explosion on the far side of the sun yesterday. This is probably a major sunspot group that will be rotating into view in the next few days. If something like this happens while pointing at earth... well stuff happens.

Here's a fun little video of two comets plunging into the sun Wednesday.

On that note, on Saturday morning before dawn, Jupiter and Venus should be so close that they may appear to be a single point of light, depending on the timing of you catching it.

Head up and eyes to the skies!

This coming Sunday we will get to see a lunar eclipse!
From what I gather totality should be by midnight so it's one for the kids to see.

Normally, a lunar eclipse bathes the moon in an orange reddish glow. But yall member that Tonga volcano a few months back. Pepperidge Farm members. You do too. Well that ash is still floating around in the stratosphere so expectations are for a darker deeper red color.

Check it out.
