Except for Glacier Bay instead of Dawes, ours was essentially the same on NCL Bliss.

Loved it all except for Victoria. Getting off the ship was a waste of time.

I've never researched the cruise route to AK before, that is barely into the state. Like taking the Skyway to 94 to Michigan, and saying you toured Indiana.

Your experience with weather is far more current and accurate than mine.

I think the big problem with getting too far into Alaska on a boat is that you have to stay on water.

Exactly. It really is amazing how big that state is and just how little of it one actually sees on a typical cruise.

Another fun fact. Juneau is not accessible by land. Only by sea and air.

I get it that the cruise benefits from leaving from Seattle, and time constraints limit how many days of travel away from port so you can return to port within the week. And now, thanks to Brick, I understand that boats travel on water, not land.

I guess that my time there was centered around the Kenai area where my cousin lived, and the Anchorage area, and driving between the two. We also drove to Denali and Fairbanks, to visit another cousin. The cruise we took from Anchorage to Seward was my experience on a big boat up there, one where we sailed to Seward, then loaded the car onto a train car and took the tunnel though the mountains back towards Anchorage.

The area is absolutely beautiful, regardless of the borders, and I'm sure you will remember the trip for life.

Question for you guys that have went on an Alaskan Cruise. My wife is freaking out about getting a bunch of rain resistant clothes for this deal. I get a good jacket that keeps rain out is probably a wise idea, but do we need to revamp our entire wardrobe?

Our was the end of June and the weather was unusually warm so what we did bring we hardly needed. That said, no I don't think you need a whole new wardrobe. I brought a lightweight down coat, raincoat to wear over it, and workboots. Also a hat and gloves because we had a helicopter ride to a glacier planned. Wife had similar clothes.

I do remember one 80-degree day we were getting off the ship; I don't remember where but we were in our shorts and t-shirts. One couple was wearing full rain gear: hat, coat, pants, boots, the entire thing. They were going to get their use of all that stuff they bought no matter what

That said you are going earlier in the year and it can be cold and windy so that is something to plan for. But so is the 50 lb. weight limit per checked bag.

Man what a great trip. Loved everything about the cruise. We arrived in Seattle a day before leaving and hung out in the city. It had a cool feel to it, much different than any other big city I have been to. We did the space needle and ate at a couple local small places.

We had a couple sea days to start the deal. We had some maintenance issues and the boat was not able to go at full speed so we arrived at our first port in Juneau about 3 hours later than expected. That canceled our excursion there. But we took a tram ride up to the top of a mountain there and hung out at a lodge overlooking the port/town. They had some crab nachos and a good local IPA.

Next day we traveled to Skagway. We took a small van tour up to the Yukon territory in Canada. Our guide was a local photographer and he showed us several cool places. The best was a suspension bridge over a river in between two mountains. Some great scenery. And got to see a bald eagle fly right in front of our van as we headed back to town.

The highlight of the trip was no doubt the day at Glacier Bay. That place is just fucking amazing. We cruised in the bay for over 6 hours. Just no words can do justice to how amazing things there are. The day at Glacier Bay is my favorite place I have ever been on any type of vacation.

Had a couple sea days before porting at Victoria BC. We took a whale watching tour there. We got to see a group of 5 orcas. They put on a good show in a little bay. The guide said he thought they had just finished off a seal and were celebrating their meal.

Headed back to Seattle the next day. The entire ship experience was great. The staff was amazing. The dining hall had a great choice of meals each night and always kept a few favorites on the menu each night. One of our waiters learned quickly that my wife was really picky but she loved their pan roasted chicken and he made sure to have that for her each night. I tried a variety of meals from salmon to beef wellington to shrimp.

My wife had always wanted to do a cruise and I was pretty leery about it all. But I am sold on it. We will no doubt cruise again in the future. The only negative was the maintenance issues, but they gave each passenger money back to our account to make up for it. We have money left in our account that we can use for a future cruise.

I highly recommend to anyone!

In W_Z fashion I give it

:D :D :D :D

Thanks for the report. We're going on what sounds like a very similar route in a few weeks so it's comforting to get such positive feedback.

Zippy Wife: What made you make this decision?
Zippy: RFDC, he is on the message board.
Zippy Wife:
Zippy: Nah, you can trust him and by the way you should here the stories of his brother in law and family.
