It feels like Hoyer has focused on fixing the pitching first through hiring Craig Breslow and Carter Hawkins and flushing out some of the old guard. Steele, Thompson, Effross, maybe Hughes, targeting Killian in the Bryant trade. The pitching side is the harder side to fix because of the need for constant juggling of young guys on the 40-man.

The hitting seems to be mostly 2024 arrivals. Davis is struggling at AAA but there's no reason for them to rush him, Morel has really improved his approach at the plate since last summer, and is a credible replacement for Bote who can also play CF. Wisdom is what he is, he'd be batting 7th on a good team but he does seem to be working on going the other way. Hoerner can't stay healthy which is why they had to waste $4M on Simmons. Madrigal, who the hell knows.

They have a lot of promising pieces at AA and below, but figure that only 1 out of every 5 end up getting 500 PA in the majors. Armstrong's floor is an old-school Paul Blair type, his upside is probably Kevin Kiermeier which is a great return for renting Baez. They have a bunch of SS types and a bunch of power hitting RFs, so figure that one of each makes it to an important role in Chicago.

dont be fooled. there is no rebuild. here is what going to happen. they'll keep going w/ throw aways and coulda beens next season too. then by year 3, they'll realize they got nobody ready to be mlb players. then in year 4 they'll sign FA's but not the big names. 2nd / 3rd tier. What they should have done in year 2.

Seiya Suzuki on IL with a sprained finger. Not broke, no splint. Can put his uniform on, tie his shoes. Does his interpreter have to spoon feed him it's so bad? I don't see many MLB non- pitchers taking 2 weeks on the IL, especially after the x-ray comes back negative.

Only 3 wins more then the bottom Reds.

Really sickening Nelson Velázquez sent down to make room for thief Heyward. Who knows what the future brings? This could be Velázquez's only MLB stint.

Can't Heyward get hit by a Meteor or something?

I swear Heyward must be sending Max and Benny's gift cards to Levine and Zaidman to say nice things. Pregame Levine: "Jason hasn't had the year he hoped for yet, but his teammates are raving about his dugout presence," followed by Zaidman: "he's always been a class act."

Zach on the PBP tonight, can't do it. I have the Brewers feed on instead even though Uecker isn't there.

I got to listen to Howie Rose and Wayne Randazzo on today's Nationals @ Mets afternoon game. Howie is a treasure, and I hate the Mets as a team. The Cubs could have had Randazzo in the Grote/ZZ role but no.....

contreras ruins a great happ & hoerner relay to cut down brosseau at the plate. the ball was at the plate and in contreras' glove at least 2 seconds before brosseau's foot hit the plate. contreras was too lazy or disorientated about his position relative to the plate/brosseau's path to apply the expected tag at the runner's foot, not his torso. bad play. no criticism from pat 'cd' hughes or jd. just another gift run from the cubs.

like pat says - without actually saying..."you know j.d., each club can feel that they should have won each game in this series".

Tired of Marquee showing us how Contreras is among the leaders in "hard hit rate." Not taking anything away from Contreras, but I think David Bote has often been near the top in that stat, which kind of tells you its usefulness.

It's hard to believe MLB gave a day to white man Lou Gehrig.
