Poor Justin Fields. "Why isn't Poles more effusive in his praise of Justin Fields when he REPEATEDLY talks about being committed to him?" Get the fuck out of here with that shit. It's embarrassing to see the lengths to which the Fields supporters will go to turn him into a victim.

He SUCKED last year. He should focus on not sucking and being a diva.

I think it’s more about the likelihood that the Bears are a year or two away from hitting reset on the QB position again. Poles can say whatever he wants, but his actions seem to suggest he doesn’t think highly of Fields.

He may be right about that and we could be looking at a 4-5 year rebuild instead of a 2-3 year rebuild.

This entire narrative is complete bullshit. Poles has consistently spoken highly of Roquan, Fields, and Mooney. He hasn't spoken highly of anyone else. None of you all question if he genuinely likes Roquan or Mooney. He clearly thinks that Fields can be the answer at quarterback.

Poles is trying to rebuild a complete team. There wasn't a receiver that signed a long-term deal that Poles should have tried to match. He may not have signed any sexy names, but he signed guys that he believes can be a short-term answer. In addition to having an offense tailored to the Bears roster instead of the Chiefs roster.

Last year, I saw a quarterback who has pretty much every physical tool that you could want a quarterback to have. He wasn't close to being NFL ready, though. He came off as entitled, injury prone, his throwing motion sucked, and the game was too fast for him. Putting the training wheels on him for a season would probably be best for his development and the long-term prospects of the Bears.

It may not be sexy, but Poles approach to Fields and the roster is correct. Hopefully, he gets the players right.

There were a few 1 year contracts on WR that I would have liked, but I don't think he wanted to tie himself into anything before the draft.

I think he'll end up getting some veterans at his price in the next few weeks.

Just two more weeks…

Roster changes vis-à-vis Fields matter far more obviously than they do for Mooney or Smith.

They had some obvious weaknesses that directly inhibit Fields’ development (e.g., line, WR) and they’ve mostly addressed those through unproven late round picks and Byron Pringle.

Fields' development has more to do with his offseason work than with players that some Bears fans would approve of. I strongly believe that we will know more about where Fields is headed before the Bears play their first preseason game.

Hoge and Jahns had a very good discussion of the Bears draft with Bruce Feldman and Nate Tice.

Feldman likes the two 2nd round picks a lot, is very high on Dominique Robinson, and also seems to have a high opinion of Velus Jones.

Tice also likes the 2nd rounders but isn't that positive about Jones. He adds that Fields would have been the first QB taken in this year's draft (likely with the #1 overall pick) and would also be the top QB in the 2023 draft (based on what Tice has seen thus far).

The podcast is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtM23UcN6o4.

This is one of the more bizarre--and hilarious--explanations I've ever seen for a player plummeting in the draft.

Quote:
Gordon slid to the second round because some evaluators felt he was only a fit for slot cornerback in the NFL. They did not feel he had the ability to line up outside at the pro level. Another reason why he slid was concern about his commitment to football. Some scouts were worried that Gordon is so focused on competitive dance that he might end his NFL career early to commit to dancing full time.

This guy better not be a pansy.

He should get along well with Fields.

It means that he has excellent feet and hips. It's also very unlikely that he'll be arrested for hitting a woman.
