Find myself consuming less and less sports talk radio content, almost no live listening, and very few station generated podcasts.

Replacing it with Bears podcasts, Joe Rogan stuff (who doesn't love stuff about outer space), Cornette (still find the wrasslin' talk entertaining), and much more music.

Have come to the realization that the only reason I was listening to sports talk radio in the past 5 years was for Bears content, used to be for the personalities, but that ship sailed long ago, and the podcasts give me what I want in a much more concise package perfect for cardio and lifting time.

Family time, some barstool, music…I’ve found that I used to have 670 on as background noise and I’ve replaced that part of it with TV.

Podcasts and reading. I never listen to the Score anymore. Podcasts would kill live radio even if it wasn't so terrible. Don't have 20 minutes of commercials to deal with. The lack of a commute for two years made this really clear.

How does one generally listen to Joe Rogan podcasts?

I've actually listened to more over the last two months, because I've been in Chicago getting my father situated in memory care and I have a lot of driving both for commuting from whatever hotel I'm at to his place, or just driving to clear my head.

That said, it's all pretty bad radio and I rarely listen to more than 20 minutes at a time before I want to stick my head into the steering wheel, and I end up putting on something on SXM.

When I'm not in the car... mostly podcasts. For sports, Jomboy Talking Baseball, PTI repeat (but not if it's mostly NBA), occasionally ESPN daily, Joe Posnanski & Michael Schur's twice-monthly podcast. Sometimes one of the sports media podcasts if the interviewee is interesting - either Jimmy Traina or Richard Deitsch. I will pick up a football podcast or two now that we are getting into July.

Find the stuff about the old territory days interesting, taking a small piece of a razor blade and cutting your forehead in a way that you will bleed all over yourself in hopes that the people watching on TV will buy tickets to watch you do it again at an arena show in a few weeks is an odd way to make a living.

Get a spotify subscription.

I can't listen to every episode, I am not terribly interested in about half of the stuff he covers.

XM in the one car, usually Dan Patrick, Florio or Rich Eisen depending on what time it is. In the car without XM, I'll listen to WFMT and occasionally listen to 670 for a few minutes. If a Cubs or White Sox game is on, I'll listen to that. I've tried podcasts of all types, but I can't find any that I've gone back to.

I do as well.

Those who are podcast intensive are really overestimating the quality of the content, at least in terms of consistency. take rogan for instance as he is the gold standard in terms of earnings from the medium. The highs are very high. However, you'll have three Ari Shaffer episodes for every Tom O'Neil, and I might be generous in that ratio.

I'm still a sucker for Bears talk from August until January.

then again, I have unusual listening habits as I might flip on NPR, Relevant Radio, WLS and Progressive radio all in the same car ride along with some tunes to boot

I still listen as well. Simply a connection for me and background noise. Nothing is really appointment radio except Bears Monday. I find when I can't listen it is out of mind and I don't miss it. That used to not be the case.

I haven't listened to the Score in months now and recently unsubscribed to Parkins and Spiegel. My view on them hasn't changed, it's just that I don't care about traditional sports and Chicago sports anymore. Baseball bores the hell out of me and I've never been a Bears fan. I listen to a variety of hockey and auto racing podcasts from the Athletic, a variety of Canadian hockey and prospect podcasts, science and politics podcasts, and a few entertainment podcasts with Smartless being a weekly listen.

Your habits aren't that unusual. I more or less do the same thing. I like balancing left wing and right wing radio. It's like hearing "news" reports from two different worlds.

The only thing I care about on the score are the expert podcast interviews. Brad Biggs, Bruce Levine, Hub, Michael Lombardi, etc. The actual shows are boring as hell.

Your take is not uncommon, many that are not interested or are offended by different thoughts and ideas are intimidated by the Rogan pods. The long form set up allows for people to either sounds somewhat competent or be exposed as frauds, he does a good job of carefully questioning them which puts them at ease until he gets them to defend certain key thesis points, then you quickly find out that they are crackpots.

Listen to one recently where he had a woman on talking about yet another Area 51 theory, he asked her why she thought her info was correct, she kept saying, "you have to read my book", he would reply, "your on here to talk about your book", he finally got her to say why she thought her info was correct and she said, "she got it from a reputable source", to which he said, "what makes you think your source wasn't just feeding you the same type of government provided misinformation that you claim everyone else is using", she started stammering and had no answer, checkmate, your entire book just was exposed as science fiction.

Then again a closed minded person would just have swallowed everything she said verbatim, naw forget it, you wouldn't understand it if someone got out crayons and colored the story for you in an adult coloring book.

I don't get the fascination with smartless. My wife likes it but she's not so secretly in love with Jason Bateman.

I've always liked Freakonomics but even that is only occasionally good.

I have both Smartless and Freakonomics on my podcast subscriptions. I maybe listen to every 7th or 8th Smartless, usually on a flight, and every 3rd or fourth Freakonomics.

I enjoy Freakonomics as well. When you FF through all the commercials, Smartless is about 40 minutes long. They get great guests with some interesting conversations. I wouldn't say I have a fascination with the podcast but it is a nice change up from listening to sports, science, and politics.

I don't mean you in particular regarding fascination. It's very popular but in my listening its average, like guys who have some spare time looking for something to do. I saw they sell out places for live shows.

The guy I think who doesn't get sufficient publicity is Lex Fridman. I think he's a deeper and smarter version of Joe Rogan, albeit less entertaining.

Do enjoy the Loury and McWhorter pods interesting, and the Pareto discussion between Loury and Peterson was interesting, but hard to beat the Prime Minster's Question stuff, which is somewhat entertaining for some odd reason.
