This decision was worth it just for to watch the fireworks from Jules' epic and predicted meltdown. She is just getting started too. I will be surprised if she doesn't have a stroke within the next week.

My LinkedIn - ostensibly a networking site - is full of the same type of stuff today.

I suppose the good thing is people show you which team they’re on. July’s a given, but nice to know where others stand.

You cannot objectively read the Constitution and believe abortion is a right. I am pro choice and understand this. Now win elections and have legislatures make it legal. Under our Constitution, food is not a right. Healthcare is not a right. Education is not a right, but yet we have universal public education, Medicare/Medicaid, and plenty of government assistance for feeding the poor.

You can't be a thinking person and believe this. Nor contraception. The marriage thing is going to be trickier. I think marriage is for religions and civil unions are for governments to recognize under which there should be legal rights and protections.

I don't know how we are going to continue, and I'm increasingly concerned with win elections and make it legal. I don't know if that will work anymore. They tried to protect us from mob rule but that doesn't seem possible anymore. Plus, our government is out of control and will need be given back to us or for us again.

There are literal Supreme Court justices - ostensibly the arbiters of how to read the Constitution- who’ve argued otherwise.

You are right, of course - and this Court is right - but the flailing we’ve seen today is the product of a lack of civics education and a side that’s not used to big losses. This was a gigantic L to the pro-baby killers/Democratic party. A huge, generational loss that took an unprecedented amount of effort and organizing to deliver.

They now have to defend a viewpoint and they’re the Martz era Rams - all offense, no defense.

I don't see it as an L for them. The fact that the court was narrowly correct in ruling as according to doing their job is not good. They aren't legislative and they shouldn't be used as legislative. They will probably get a lot of what they want in certain states.

And the Court didn’t legislate. They’re forcing legislators to legislate.

As noted elsewhere, that’ll cause headaches for both sides. Not having to justify support for baby murder is a big win for most Dem pols. Places like ours will roll with it, but it’s a big country and explaining the acceptability of butchering a baby is a long putt that won’t play in many places.

I wasn't clear. I didn't mean they legislated in this case. It's clear that is the direction they want to use the court. Some are ruling according to the agenda rather than the law, constitution, or whatever else should be followed.

There are a dozen or so states that looks like it will do the 15 week thing. My problem with this is NY, IL, CA etc are going to go all in on 9 months, doesn't have to be a physician, or forcing institutions that don't want to provide them to provide them. None of that is good for anybody especially women. I don't think this will go on to be a good thing in many cases.

But none of those things should be within the purview of the federal government. What the Founders understood that modern college educated urban liberals apparently do not, is that every time the federal government inserts itself into your life, you become less free. There are even guys on this board with 130+ IQs who think we should eliminate the Electoral College so that some people can rule other people who are 3000 miles away.

Do you prefer that the electoral college lets people rule others that are 75 miles away?

Every vote method lets one side rule another side. It shouldn’t be dependent on where you live to determine if your vote matters in a Federal election. It’s an antiquated argument that should no longer apply.

We are a representative republic. So even if you change things it cannot be just a national vote and that vote determines things. It has to be tied into the states in some fashion.

OK. Then subdivide it.

Southern Illinois’ concerns have little to do with Chicago’s any more than Ohio or Florida’s do with Iowa or California’s.

Yet OH, PA, and FLA get to decide.

It made sense with original colonies with their basic individual concerns. Every state is now a combination within each state similar to the original colonies.

I’ve argued this before. Just my thoughts. I’m not going to try to change anyone’s mind.

Check in on those at risk for an unwanted pregnancy? What bullshit. I have a daughter in high school and one in college. I don’t pretend I can control their behavior, nor should I.

However, I’ve been very clear about using birth control if they are active.

I think a big part of the pro-life movement believes what Bill Clinton said—safe, legal, and RARE. Abortion should not be used as birth control as it is used today.

In fact, I read an article about the original “Roe” woman. It was her third pregnancy and she was in her early 20s. I think three different fathers. Stop fucking, or use some birth control. Planned Parenthood provides free birth control for those in need.

I definitely can see the need for system reform. But if you make it a national vote all you are doing is shifting what group of people decide. Instead of OH, PA, and FL, now you get So Cal, NYC, Chicago, etc.

I dont know what the answer is. But I do think it needs to be tied to the states in some form whether subdividing it or not.

Just win the popular vote. Even George W. Bush did it once. If Americans want a Republican president, they'll vote for one.

Great idea! So the city dwellers that have hollowed out the country can have even more power than they already do.

We can have millions of untraceable ballots signed x decide every election from now on.

Better than three Ultra religious and Ultra right people dictating policy for the country via court rulings.

Why don't SCJs have term limits? Or would there be a good way to balance the court or ensure they are/could be true moderates?

It is pretty incredible even if expected that the attitudes of large cities think they should lord over flyover country. All the while not really seeing who the hell is rolling all over them.

The second answer for you is what is a moderate. Many here regardless of religious leanings or implications want the judges to rule on what IS constitutional or not. Not create a bunch of things that congress should do. The other side wants the judges to create legislative effects in the decisions via back doors. Where does the moderate work?
