It was fun to see a movie about a guy that's just good at something again and isn't a God or has some crazy superpower.

I'm quite certain it was determined in Top Gun that Maverick isn't merely a good fighter pilot. Rather, he's the best of the best.

Actually, Maverick is number 2. Just want to curve your expectations.

Saw it again this afternoon. Went to a 1pm showing expecting to not have many people there. It was prob 90% full.

Based on their interaction in the film, Iceman still believes Maverick is #2.

That was great. "Let's not ruin this nice moment".

Finally saw it today and absolutely loved it. The most fun I've had at a movie in a long time, maybe ever. The perfect sequel to a big movie from my childhood.

This movie was roughly 90% less homoerotic than the original and about 10% as good. Nice action scenes, no character development, awkward and perfunctory relationship between Maverick and Penny. I didn't fall asleep, but I was checking the time quite a bit to see when I would be released from cinematic purgatory.

I liked it, although it was a bit slow at times. I thought Cruise’s speech before the movie was cool—especially calling out real jets were used. This wasn’t just another CGI production.

Only because it's difficult to get wood when you're dying of cancer.

Very disappointing TM.

Guess it just shows even the best posters around here have terrible opinions.

In it's 5th week since release, Top Gun has again risen to the #1 movie in the domestic box office. This movie is going to remain in the top 3 every week pretty much through the end of summer at this rate.

Why would I be asking for mustard at a movie theater? It seems like a strange topping for popcorn.

Sorry you go to the poor theaters without a full menu.

Nah, but I am smart enough not to order a full meal at a theater.

With Grey Poupon added it's both a meal and an experience.

Watched it last night. 3 1/2 out of 4 stars.

Cruise may be a nut job but when he puts his mind to it can make some good movies.

I thought it was a good pace and they flying scenes where good and only a little less amazing than the first one.
The bar scene had me laughing my ass off.

Spoiler alert

When they steal the F-14 the dialog between Maverick and Rooster is almost word for word the same as when Mav and Goose had before he died.

I loved the Iceman scene, even though I knew it was coming it still hit a little hard.

#1 movie at the box office for both Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day weekend. Has any other film done that one in the last few decades?

Also hit #5 all-time on domestic box office and is creeping into the top 10 worldwide despite not getting a China release.

https://www.boxofficemojo.com/chart/top_lifetime_gross/

I really hope film producers are paying attention and see this is what audiences crave.

I'm surprised Avatar wasn't moved up to take advantage of the fact there have been no major movies released in theaters since Top Gun and Jurassic World in late May/early June. They could have had the entire market to themselves.

finally got to see this over the weekend and man what a great entertainment. thin character designs didn't bother me, the pacing was great. even became a "mission impossible" story in the 3rd act. cruise and teller were outstanding. and the show definitely tugged at some heart strings at times.

i dare say this was better than the original...fantastic blockbuster fun.

I mean this as a compliment. It's the best cornball movie ever made. The telegraphing throughout the movie of Mav sacrificing himself for Goose's kid was beautifully and successfully played.

Tom Cruise. What a unicorn. Seems like he's a disaster in everything but shines like the sun in movies. Just born to be a movie star, I guess.

That’s pretty much it. Maybe the greatest movie star of all time, to be a part of the 5th biggest box office film of all time at 60. He’s a lunatic and superficial guy, sure, but absolutely kills it on the big screen.

I did not think it was possible to be better than the original, but it most definitely was.

Z I cant believe it took you this long to see it!
