Just win the popular vote. Even George W. Bush did it once. If Americans want a Republican president, they'll vote for one.

Great idea! So the city dwellers that have hollowed out the country can have even more power than they already do.

Better than three Ultra religious and Ultra right people dictating policy for the country via court rulings.

Except that isn't happening. The people you vote for allow you to kill babies.

From my understanding, it was setup so that they could make difficult decisions that weren't supported by people and not have to face re-election for making the "right" decision instead of the "popular" decision. Also, if you look at the average lifespan back then, your max tenure would be probably 20 years... now you could conceivably be sitting for 30-40 years.

I've kind of liked the notion of 18 year terms -- each president gets two appointments per presidential term. 18 years is long enough to make a pretty big impact on the direction of the country. This would also kind of help bypass some of the partisan grandstanding at appointments, I would hope. But for that to happen, Congress would have to pass an amendment I believe because the unlimited term is part of the Constitution. And I doubt that is high on anyone's list.

Potawatomi Casino & Abortion Clinic would be interesting, and would give Indians a hat trick in profiting off human misery. Unfortunately, the Democrats won't do anything like this, because they don't do anything for anyone except book spots on cable news and invent white-paper jobs for people who went to Brown. The Republicans deliver more for their people when they're out of power than the Democrats do when they're in. Sad!

That sounds like a recipe for forcing The People to evict the federal government from their states.

How Dem-o-rats define "democracy": Subverting the will of the voters in states that don't allow the murder of babies with a workaround created by a senator from a state that does.

The "lawyer" is clearly brain damaged for thinking Cornyn was suggesting the SCOTUS should repeal Brown v Board. His obvious point was that other 50-yr old SCOTUS decisions (i.e., Plessy) were rightly reversed despite precedent.

Wyoming is like 50% federal land. Imagine for the potential for Cheney-Warren Abortion Barns in every city. They’ll print cash.

No. I like it.

Here's the bottom line. If you like the life you've lived up to this moment, you CANNOT support the Democratic Party. You just CANNOT.

Now, that gets us to the other assholes. I'm loathe to vote Republican. And I doubt the Republican Party will save the United States. Unfortunately, the Republican Party is the only fighter we have.

It's going to take a lot to convince The People that the Republican Party does not have to be the party of grandees sitting around country club pools deciding where they're going to send your sons to die and cutting your meager benefits. But the popularity of DRUMPF made such a thing possible. You can see a new Republican Party coalescing around the working class, the middle class, minorities who are realizing how badly they have been fucked by Democrats.

All this as the Democrats have been captured by Big Tech and Big Pharma. A political party can be whatever The People want it to be. And Liz Cheney, Mitt Romney et al are going to find out that The People don't want the GOP circa 1956.

The single issue, pro abortion Democrats, will now be unable to hide behind a court decision.

Sick burn, you a writer for Colbert? This is a memorable bit right up there with Carlin's 7 Dirty Words and Sam Fels' "Barfstool" comedy gold.

I will concede this with regards to Trump- he definitely tapped into a certain anger among the white working class and increasingly certain hispanic segments of the population. The big issue for me though, is he did not really care about these folks. It is odd to me to see poor voters going for Republicans and rich people voting for Democrats.

The inherent struggle should be that Democrats wants to lift poor people up with lots of government assistance while Republicans want to use capitalism to grow the economy, increase wealth, and provide jobs. And as flawed as our entire system is, this country with 4% of the world’s population produces about 20% of the worlds output and is among the highest in per capita gdp. At the same time, we have a fairly robust system of handouts- free public education, Medicare, social security, food assistance, Medicaid for the poor. We have struck a decent balance.

But yes, we have no answer for income inequality. We have certain places where wealthy income is being tax at nearing 60%. I do no believe we need to take away 95% of Jeff Bezos’ money so that poor people get another $100 per month. You may hate Bezos, but Amazon has created an incredible number of jobs and is a valuable consumer service, AWS is a leader in cloud storage too. I want to push up the bottom not pull down the top. Education is the best answer. We also need to as a society value two parent households.

So what? The results are what matters. He remade the Republican Party. Or he facilitated the remaking of it, is a better way to put it. The politically homeless are building themselves a home. Trump is a shitty carpenter but he was available and construction has to start somewhere.

But you're touching on a relatively modern phenomenon, i.e. the emotional attachment to politicians. Hillary Clinton is the best example of this. There are people, mostly women, who grieved as if a family member died because she lost an election.

Trump doesn't care about me and I don't care about Trump or any other politician. I don't need my politicians to care. A politician is just an instrument that should be used to carry out the wishes of Americans and hopefully give us better lives.

the inherent political philosophical struggle. that's very 1980ish. the struggle now is how much can i do for corporate america to guarantee the bulk of their money for my reelection?

in 2020, the financial sector gave 53% of it's money to democrats. how's that for the non free-market capitalist party? a few years ago, obama called them 'fat cats'. the banks believed in biden: the uniter, or, they saw biden as 'their man'?

Quote:
The report says that individuals and campaign entities linked to the financial sector contributed just more than $1.9 billion toward backing candidates running for federal office, including over $74 million that went to supporting President Joe Biden’s run for president.

Of the $1.9 billion, 47% went to Republicans and 53% went to Democrats. In fact, this report notes that more than $250 million from those working in the FIRE sector went toward supporting Biden, the most out of all the contenders for president. Those contributions were a mix of donations to his campaign and outside groups supporting him.

both parties are infected with corporatism sickness. the 2020 election was the return of the establishment. when oil was at $39/bbl under trump, xom was $39 a share. today, it's $87 a share. joe lunchbox or a 1%er has 2,000 shares of xom in their portfolio? who has benefitted more with the 'transition'??

coming out and saying that my net worth is $40 million, and i desperately want my net worth to grow to $100 million...hmmm, not good. just hide behind what the think-tanks spit out: this island is sinking in the pacific, that glacier is melting, nuclear power produces fish with 3 tails. we need to change. you need to change. see, we can change. that's the way to do it.

It's hilarious to me that Demo-Rats think the answer is taxing, to solve income inequality. It's not. It's the government "getting theirs". Just unionize and cut out the overpriced middleman.

Among my age group and relative socioeconomic cohort, Hillary was Mom: she was either what our moms actually were or what they could have been if they weren't burdened with raising shitty kids like us. Girls were reading about Hillary in Time Magazine for Kids since they were six years old. They were annoying as fucking shit about it, but I get why they mourned the way they did. And to be fair, all the hysterical scaremongering about how this meant that abortion would one day be banned actually turned out to be absolutely right.

You could run it back to Kennedy and "ask not...", but I think Obama was really the first time it was gauche to think that they owed you something. Hillary and Ruth Bader Ginsburg followed. Fan culture as politics.

Just make sure they don't live too close together, because if their population density is too high, their votes count less.

But you're touching on a relatively modern phenomenon, i.e. the emotional attachment to politicians. Hillary Clinton is the best example of this. There are people, mostly women, who grieved as if a family member died because she lost an election.

You are an interesting cat. And apparently a yoga expert.
