I'm as disappointed as anyone with the way the first 2 playoff games have gone. Had I spent thousands of dollars on seats for either, I would be even more upset. But this has been a great season already. The Cubs won 97 of 161 games in the regular season and captured their 2nd straight N.L. Central division title. They are in the playoffs in back to back seasons for the first time in decades. Certainly I will be disappointed if things don't work out as I hope they will, but I will never look back at 2008 as a bad season, no matter how it ends. It's been a fun season. I just hope the best is yet to come.

Yeah it was a good regular season, but because of posts like this and morons like you Steve give Cubs fans a bad name. I enjoyed the season as much as the next fan, but Jesus man did this team seem to piss all that away in 2 games. Why do you think Cubs fans get the wrap that they are just happy to be there? Because dumb shit like this gets posted. Oh everything will be just fine, Im happy overall. Piss on yourself and your joy is the world attitude. Get pissed or stay your ass in the closet.

The season is not over and I am not giving up hope. It sounds like a lot of others have.

I was raised to be happy with losing as a Cubs fans. When '84, '89 and '98 came, my friends and family were genuinely surprised that the Cubs could even make the playoffs. A first round exit was expected. But 2003 changed all that for me. I expect a World Series. I'm paying for tickets that I would pay for a consistant world series contender. Part of me wishes I could go back to the happygolucky Cubs fan of my yout, and be happy about this season. I cannot. I simply put no effort in until the playoffs anymore. The regular season means nothing anymore.

I see your point steve, but the season doesnt mean much if they dont win it all, thats what they have been selling since spring training, the manager, players and front office, so by their accounts, the season will be a failure if they dont win it, which they wont.

This team should look different next year, Lee could be gone, they almost for sure will unload, marquis, howry and maybe even fukudome if they can deal him. Not to mention edmonds and reed johnson will be free agents, so it could be pie or they will need to pick up a cf'er. If the cardinals go out and address their pitching issues, they could be a problem as could be the astros. I think the brewers window is closing just because their pitching will be bad again next year and I think its a very real possibilty that fielder could be gone if they cant sign him. So with that said, yea, they can contend next year, but they will need to go out and sign two studs out of the free agent market, maybe the new owners will want to make a splash, if thats the case, i vote for dunn and CC.

I couldn't disagree more with being content with the Flubs not showing up in the playoffs - AGAIN!! The regular season stats and record mean absolutely nothing with this pathetic "attempt" of accomplishing real goals set forth by the very players that are booting the ball all over the field and swinging from their heels at the plate - It's just another failure for the underacheivers that are Completely Useless By September - yes, I'm a bitter Cubs fan!!

i'm a Cubs fan and i couldn't disagree with this post any harder. This has not been a good year - not if they don't bring home the bacon. I've had fun this past summer, but if it's all for naught here in the post-season, it takes it from being a fun summer to a waste of one.

I encourage my child to root for the Cubs, though i tell him it's ok to like the Sox AND the Cubs so the final choice is with him. I think I will encourage him to root for the Sox, cos this is some bullshit. The Cubs seemingly can't hit good pitching, they seemingly can't "handle pressure", and they are scared to play in the big games.

Monumental dissappointment and frustration. Stupid posts like the first one give meatheaded assholes their jollies and quasi justification to pronounce all Cubs fans idiots.
Keep me off the list of Idiot Glad To Be Here Cubs Fans.

Best to be thought an idiot than go about opening a thread and proving it. Bad paraphrase and I don't care.

Then I might forget that I lost my home and all its contents in a flood, my job and health insurance, 1 beagle and 1 cat, all in 2008!!

Ooops sorry...that should have been in the "things that suck" thread.

But seriously, I want what he's on! :drunken:

Oh yeah, and fuck Bud and fuck Drayton!

You're wrong Steve. I think you know it too. Trying to convince yourself otherwise.

Only a World Series title would have made this a great year. You've done this "Division title" shit a few times. You bring up the 97 victories like it means something. Doesn't mean anything. You know it. 100 years. Best team in the NL in 2008. No World Series title = Failure. First Round exit = Choke.

It's just true. Like I said, all Cubs fans know it. Unless they fool themselves into not knowing it.

Hi everybody. I'm an Angels fan. I'm as disappointed as anyone with the way the first 2 playoff games have gone. Had I spent thousands of dollars on seats for either, I would be even more upset. But this has been a great season already. The Angels won 100 (!) of 162 games in the regular season and captured their 2nd straight A.L. Western division title. Certainly I will be disappointed if things don't work out as I hope they will, but I will never look back at 2008 as a bad season, no matter how it ends. It's been a fun season. I just hope the best is yet to come.

Also, I'm either lying through my teeth or I am high on drugs.

The Angels will be super fine in the year of our Lord '09!

If they get beat-IF-I will be real disappointed. But I refuse to let a 2 game losing streak change my opinion of this team as drastically as many seem willing to. If you thought this 97 win, repeat division champion, was a great team all year. Believed that they were going to be world Champions. Are you really willing to let a 2 game losing streak (okay-3 they lost the last regular season game vs Milwaukee, even though they started mostly bench players and a pitcher-Angel Guzman-who had not started all year for them) let you change your mind? They have made things far tougher on themselves by dropping the first 2. They have played worse than they had in almost any 2 game stretch maybe all season. But its not a done deal. I still see this team as a quality team, capable of winning the next 3, the next series, the World Series. Is that unlikely-sure. Mathematical odds are against it, to be certain. But even if they should lose, I will not be one of those saying this team sucks. They have played 2 shitty games, but its a good team that played 2 shitty games, not a shitty team.
