Vegan you make some good points here, particularly the ones that were in bold print. There are many people here with opposing views, such as ,W72, WZ Drebin, Midget, CH, Denis, Antioch, Nardi, and some I am forgetting, where this sort of thing is possible. Clawmaster also. Unfortunately too often those interactions are derailed by the bigoted brigade because they have a racist agenda and despise blacks. They don't care to ever engage a Black person about anything constructively on here and that's fine by me by the way.. The problem is that they will proceed to "shit" up this board for everyone else that chooses to have constructive conversations. Look at the way they target Reader if you don't believe me. He tries to ignore that crowd but whenever he veers into the politics section then you know that it won't be long before the Twitters and JLN types show up with their brand of bullshit to fuck up the discussion. That is why it was so important for them to have the Americas and Toxics of the world around for "support".

What have you found to be triggering? Asking with sincerity... I guess you can pm if you don't want to publicly answer ot you maybe don't reply at all if you think I'm being disingenuous (but I'm not).

When you have the same group posting vile crap within minutes of you posting, or the same Darren Bailey (the city ) is the problem dog whistle b.s., it's damned aggravating. And when you get 10-12 of the usual suspects and their enablers chiming in, it's disheartening.

LTG lives in a glass house and decides to cast stones. When others cast stones, they're evil, trolls, dog whistlers, etc.

Makes zero sense, but few things do here anymore.

Ok.
I'm curious though... why are you guys so defensive about the city? I'd be willing to bet those threads die out if TML didn't take it so personally everytime someone laments crime in the city. I mean if someone posted about the crime in my city or county... I'd probably agree that it was fucked up that it happened.

not disagreeing with any of this but seeing that bailey will be the upcoming mid-term "challenger" this year it makes me really yearn for that old man potter mult. damnit.

There are things I hate about the city, but it's always going to be home. And honestly I've hated most suburbs since I helped desegregate a school district as a kid. That it's always been city vs suburbs and city vs the rest of shitty Illinois didn't help. And it's still that way. See Darren Bailey.

I could say the same with you and guns, or shitstains like Twitter and Frank but then I'd be digressing.
Actually I'm not "defensive" about anything. What "WE" try and tell you is that yes there is crime, but that is not all there is to Chicago. When "WE" try and illustrate the point, the brigade immediately claims that we are making excuses or minimizing the level of crime when we're not. I told you that I hadn't heard gunshots in 10-15 years here and you told me I was lying. How do you expect to ever have a "constructive" conversation with someone when your conclusion is that sort of thing?

Again I'm not getting defensive about anything. Crime is what it is. And criminals are what they are. However the only thing that guys with agendas like yourself ever want to discuss is "crime in Chicago" In a thread about the economics of downtown Chicago (which your town benefits directly from by the way) all you want to discuss is "crime in Chicago" to the point where the theft of a few Belts and Sunglasses is a precursor to the City's demise.
And if I really want to be "informed" about Crime in Chicago do you really think I need the biased Twitter post of WFR in order to accomplish it?

So... one such as yourself could see how maybe one from downstate or out of the immediate collar counties might hold a similar grudge against Chicago or Cook County based on the fact that that one county can bully the entire state politically.

It's funny and strange because Bailey was backed by Pritzker to chew up Griffin's money.

Burgers are the best, kabobs are the worst. Ribs are okay.

Let's not use "worst"....I'll go with "Lowest on the List" or "Last Place". That honor goes to boneless chicken breasts.

Ribs are heavenly. BRick might have just given the board one of it's all-time worst takes

Something tells me BRick lacks a certain skill on the grill.
I'm relying on ribs I've bought from highly rated bbq places.

I've considered making them on my smoker but I always choose other things.

My main problem with most ribs that I've ever had is there is a surprisingly small amount of actual meat for the work required to find it. They also require a huge amount of sauce whereas things like brisket and pulled pork and quarter chickens I don't even feel the need to douse it with a huge amount of sauce.

No I really don't think you could. Well, you could try but you'd be wrong. I'm always very willing to listen to the other side in guns and hear them out and for the most part have reasonable, measured discussions either them. You should know that. But see you think you got ke on this one but you don't know me well enough. You just think you have me on that but you really fumbled on this one based on your prejudices about me. Try again.

Poor job of selling it. Of course there's more to Chicago than crime. But you don't try to illustrate that... you try to normalize the increasing crime. It's just a pair of sunglasses. It's just a watch. There have always been riots. You did this in the very post im quoting from as a matter of fact. Yeah man, youre very, very defensive about chicago crime.
As for your not hearing gunshots comment no I don't believe it but I hear gunshots any time my windows are open so for me hearing gunfire is completely background noise.

Who cares? That's my approach and I know it's not yours. Say your piece, defend it on logical grounds, and let others resort to personal attacks when they can't defeat you intellectually. You win by the strength of your argument, not by obsessively replying just to get the last word.

I'm usually not a target because I don't seek bullshit out. And even if the so-called herd chases after me, again, who cares?

Who cares? Do you really think you're going to win the hearts of minds of bigots on the internet? You fail to realize there's little to no return when you invest time in internet arguments. As we speak, there are probably 1M bigots online right now in North America. They are saying bigoted things and people are giving them a pass. Who cares? Do you really think you're going to fix things?

In general I think I shared JORR/Seacrest's distaste for some of the things people wrote here that got them banned. I was referring to that stuff.

Yep. That was illustrated by Ballpark Frank's refusal to call out his own school district for doing the exact same thing as CPS a full year and a half before CPS did it.

The events, elections, policies, and finances of Chicago can and often time does affect far more people than just those who live within city limits. You really wonder why people post about these things?

Wondering if we can apply concepts from Meyers Briggs personality tests here. I have def read some unfortunate stuff here that triggers me as a minority. However - that's just the internet for you. You're going to see shit you don't like. My approach is to just deal with it. It's the world and it's reality. I guess I can be that way because in Meyers Briggs terms I'm not much of a feeling type. I instead rationalize what I'm seeing, why I'm seeing it, and then decide how much I want to let it get to me. For other types, especially the more feeling types, it's going to get to you. We can see that here. In the past I've reached out to ltg to sort of advise that he take my approach - don't engage the obvious trolls/troglodytes, just move on. Engage the more serious types with whom you can reason. He hasn't taken that approach and that's totally fine. At one time I seriously considered creating a mult called "I'm a LTG troll, Don't Respond," or something like that, just to troll ltg and simultaneously make a point to him. I fully expected him to respond to that mult. And in doing so I sincerely hoped he'd learn something about himself.

But by now I just think ltg is extraordinarily emotional and also incorrigible. So it is what it is. There's no point to this post other than to offer an interpretation of what I'm seeing. Carry on.

Sometimes ideas are called out because they're bad ideas, not because the person expressing these ideas is a minority. This isn't to say you or reader or anyone else here doesn't experience bigotry. Also, this being an anonymous message board, you've got to concede that sometimes people aren't aware you are black. I didn't know you were black, for example, until you said so. Would it be fair for you to say I was disagreeing with you or whatever in the past because you are black? How would I know? How do we know if people are being called out repeatedly because of the ideas in their posts or because of their skin color?

I don't think being targeted in the politics section is always an indicator of bad faith behavior. Engaging in partisan political discussion and not expecting blowback is basically the equivalent of hating a barber for changing the way you look - I mean what the fuck did you expect. I don't find what you said to be all that convincing.

Out of curiosity why do you care or feel the need to comment on his claim? Fwiw, I hear far less than I did in the early nineties, but sadly I can't make the same claim.

And yet you don't understand why I don't respect your opinions in this matter. Yet you aimlessly persist.

Again you are not the target of any of it. It's easy to take an ambivalent approach to it all when that is the case. They also can ignore me as well. Takes 2 to dance and if they truly wanted to ignore me they could too.

And keep in mind that the very same crowd that often partakes in this sort of behavior are the very same group of people that bitched constantly about BMac all of the time. Very same ones.

Darko whines about the tenor that the board "has taken lately" and then proceeds to partake in the very same behavior he decries. Or chooses to support shitstain Frank in most of his numerous vendettas as well as bigots like Twitter Feed.

I didn't ask if you respect my thoughts or not, and truly I don't care. Your opinion that non-Chicago residents should not be allowed to post about or talk about Chicago events is beyond comprehension, much less respect.

And if you truly believe that Chicago's finances, events, elections, policies, etc affect ONLY the people who reside within city limits, then you are beyond comprehension.

When you have the same group posting vile crap within minutes of you posting, or the same Darren Bailey (the city ) is the problem dog whistle b.s., it's damned aggravating. And when you get 10-12 of the usual suspects and their enablers chiming in, it's disheartening.

not disagreeing with any of this but seeing that bailey will be the upcoming mid-term "challenger" this year it makes me really yearn for that old man potter mult. damnit.

That would have been fun.

Honest answer? He's such a crazy hothead man, and it amuses me when he gets all lathered up. It's the same kind of trolling that makes picking on the Sox fun or to a lesser extent (because my team blows) picking on the saints. You are always guaranteed a hot headed angry response from him every single time. He will never not respond. He will always strugglebus his way to a last word regardless of how silly the last word is. He doesn't care if it's coherent. He just cares he's the last man standing. In a way he has superhuman endurance. It would be admirable if it were focused positively.
