Why do you believe you have dodged multiple variants? Have you been tested? Have the people closely related to you dodged it too?

I have not not had COVID. It wasn’t not not a terrible experience and I wouldn’t recommend future despots not shut down government at the slightest uptick in cases.

I haven’t ever got sick. My wife has not either but she showed antibodies when she gave blood awhile back. So I would guess I had it as well and never had any symptoms

Not the vaccinated.

I think I had it twice but I never got tested. Just about everybody I know has had it. When are we going to be done with this?

I haven't had it, and my kids haven't contracted the virus. I've been tested around 10 times. My kids have been tested at least once.

I think my husband had it in 2020. He didn't get it when the 3 of us had at Christmas. He got it in Feb or March I think - he was tested. None of us got sick then. I'd bet you all had it, just no symptoms or whatever.

You don't get it. You are a bad person. Once you realize that it will be over but you will never realize that. Bad. Bad person.

Have only had one verified case, way back when it started. I do think that I've been reinfected numerous times because I do at least 10 screening tests per week to check patient status for surgery, as part of the admission process, or for SNF screenings at discharge, so get exposed to the latest variants all the time.

My initial case was like a bad case of the flu, but now I just get a sore throat for a day or two, they do not test any staff that is asymptomatic.

The last of our anti-vax friends both got it after going to a Packers game last November.

Not testing staff kind of proves how pointless this is now. You know somebody is coming into work with mild symptoms.

I have not tested positive because I have had no reason to get tested. Hell if I know if I have had it. I have felt like crap a few days throughout the year but nothing abnormal from any other year. The WORST I felt was the day after I got the booster. That fucking sucked.

I recall hearing this seemingly impossible (at the time) story early on in COVID: Husband, Son, Wife all 3 live in same home. Husband (59) and Son (20) contract Covid and are dead in 3 weeks. Wife (also late 50's) never even breaks a sweat. wtf? https://wwmt.com/news/state/woman-who-l ... ebook-live

Among the 7 of us, none of my brothers or sisters have come up positive for COVID. Mostly all been in multiple situations where the room was exposed to COVID and seemingly anyone who attended say a baby shower or graduation party ended up positive for Covid. But none of us sublings who attended such events did. I don't want to temp fate by thumbing my nose at COVID and it's always possible the next strain will be the one that finally fells us all, but I think there's some sort of genetic or immune system thing that causes COVID to skip over some people.

That's how I feel. It's been around my kids and me too much for it to simply be "luck". That said, I knew too many people who died to celebrate not catching it. Especially since all it takes is a mutation for me to catch it and graduate to the afterlife.

There were several possible avenues to herd immunity, many of the honest docs told us early on that it would be a few years before humans had developed sufficient immunity to this particular virus to render subsequent strains less impactful.

You could have done nothing and let is spread to nearly everyone immediately which would have caused an even greater strain on the system than the outbreaks we had initially, but would have likely gotten to herd immunity quicker.

You could have gone with total lockdowns like the did in some Chinese cities where people were forbidden to leave home.

We went with a somewhat hybrid approach, was it the right way to handle it, it seems only time will tell.

One thing is for sure, it had a tremendous impact on the US healthcare system that nobody is really acknowledging or has a plan to deal with and there are certainly no smart people at the state of federal level that have any idea how to deal with the issue.

I had it. I just toughed it out. Never saw a doctor. I was really fucked up for the first 3 or 4 days with the coughing and being out of breath. Lost my sense of taste. But for only for a day. I was out of breath after walking 5 steps up the stairs. I thought about calling 911 at one point cuz I was scared one time when I couldn't breath. But I didn't. I calmed down and caught my breath. The entire thing lasted 2 weeks.

It's funny. I literally got it the day after my second shot. I thought I was safe after that second shot. Guess not.

It was kind of a cool moment for me when it was over. Because all of a sudden I literally felt my lungs clear and I was able to breath normally. And the coughing stopped. It just happened like that. In an instant.

Because there is no way to deal with something that contagious. We aren't gods and not everything is solvable.

This is it in a nutshell. The politics of "DO SOMETHING!" are destructive. The COVID "DO SOMETHING!" is innocuous when compared to what we are seeing with the Climate Change "DO SOMETHING!" which is going to starve huge swaths of the population.

I understand that it wasn't politically feasible but what should have happened is that Trump or Fauci or anyone with guts should have made a speech like this:

There's a deadly virus out there. We plan to find out about its origins. In the meantime, people are going to die. Sadly, there's nothing anyone can do about that. What we aren't going to do is destroy our society in what will ultimately be a futile attempt to stop a virus. We must carry on with our lives. Every person must be responsible for his or her own health. People do not "give" each other viruses. That said, I would ask that each and every American take reasonable precautions to prevent spreading this or any other virus. And if you have health issues, take care of yourself and avoid being in situations where you might catch this terrible cold.

What do you mean?

Will give you the 500 foot and the 50,000 foot views.

Had several experienced RN's leave my unit during COVID, then several more leave soon after, and then several more leave during the past sixmonths, this is a system wide problem, when you are running at 50% staffing levels it certainly impacts care.

Then you throw in the nationwide numbers showing that the crisis will only get worse over the next few years and you eventually get into situations where there will not be enough RN's to safely operate hospital units. Already see smaller hospitals divert patients to us because they do not have enough staff to provide care, this is also true of SNF's, which causes us to keep people in the hospital longer because there is nowhere to discharge them for rehab.

The bigger places are able to overpay for travel RN staff, but that creates an almost mercenary approach to providing health care to human beings, most of my younger staff have already left to join travel companies, many of these nurses had only one year of acute care experience and were not exactly experts by any means, so you get inexperienced people chasing contracts that have no allegiance to the communities they are working in, so you can imagine how that impacts patient care/outcomes.

In many ways COVID has completely changed the entire acute healthcare system, but most people have no idea this is going on and will only find out if they have to access the system. The hospital administrators and state/federal politicians are nowhere near smart enough to figure this out, so it falls on those of us working on the front lines to try to make it work, that is until we get sick of it and bail. There are ways this could be mitigated, but the state/federal decision makers will continue to rely on the academic figurehead types whose lack of vision has created this environment in the first place, so expect it to get much worse before it gets better.

Did appreciate Biden using some of my fellow medical professionals as props during his campaign, but it seems he has forgot about healthcare completely and is instead focused on....well not really sure what he is focused on these days.

I've never been tested, lost my smell and taste for 5 months and I was a pretty tired for a week..would have thought it was a sinus infection and not miss any work if I didn't lose the smell and taste. I think we can all agree the vaccines didn't do shit.

Vaxxed and don't think I've ever had it since I haven't been sick in like 3 years. If I thought I might have it I'd use some of the free tests that got sent out, as my 80yo mom has scleroderma so giving her Covid would probably not go well.

Significantly more people would have died, and society may have actually been destroyed. Are you putting any thought into this?

President Trump: My fellow Americans, there is a new, highly contagious, and somewhat deadly virus in our country. We don't really understand it. We think older adults and people with preexisting conditions are likelier to die if they contact it. We aren't positive, though. Here's the thing; we can't do anything about it right now. We need you to carry on with your lives. If you or someone else feels sick, we need you to stay out of our hospitals. We need them for other things. God, bless America.

Reporter: Mr. President, other countries are taking steps to reduce the spread, why do you think that is the wrong approach?

President Trump: We're a country of enormous faith; we will live by it. No more questions!

There would have been a run on the banks, no one would have gone to work, and violent crime would have been at levels most of us couldn't imagine. To maintain "order," every government has to show that they are doing something. This is why every government in the world did something.

Close contact with someone infected, surgery, work, travel, or just want to stick things in their nose.

I have not had Covid. Have been tested, home tests and lab test when others around me had Covid. Wife and daughter had Covid. I thought for sure I would get it because of the close contact. Tested 6 times over two weeks and no signs of Covid.

No idea why I have not had it. Been exposed to it from co-workers, friends and family. Large events, amusement parks, water parks exc. Was tested when Co-Workers had Covid and when notified someone in my family had it and I was around them.

My guess would be that I have had it, but nothing where I felt more then common cold symptoms and no need to get tested. Maybe when others around me got Covid, I was already immune?

*Have not taken the vaccine*
