My three year old and I were just talking about that.

He made the point that oftentimes, adults use small children as cover to express something they believe to be exceedingly profound, but think if they express it themselves outright they’ll be dismissed or ignored. Perhaps it’s a reflection of insecurity in the underlying view, he posited. The irony, my very young child then noted, is that hiding behind children makes the speaker/writer appear all the more ridiculous.

During Trump’s first impeachment - not long after his first birthday - he was reflecting on the nature of polarization within society. Even innocuous viewpoints, like support for due process, became referenda on good & evil (or at least that’s how it appeared to him, having recently past the infant stage). He couldn’t help but be concerned for his hypothetical future grandchildren that they’ll inherit a world where political prosecutions were merited not on conduct, but based on the power dynamics between two increasingly disconnected parties. To even question the underlying rationale of the Wekrainian Impeachment - his words, not mine - made one an asshole in another’s eyes.

So yes, you may call him an asshole, but sadly, the charge has lost all meaning.

I’ll caveat that we’ve not discussed the subject in great detail since his second birthday, so he may have refined his opinion a bit.

Based on her average Amazon rankings in the 300,000 range, looks like about one book per month.

When you get that low on the Amazon rankings, it becomes difficult to get an accurate number. One tracking site says that if your rank is 150,000 that means about 1 book per day. 500,000 is less than 1 per month. Another site allows you to plug in the rank, so when I used 350,000, it said about 14 books per month.

I have a buddy who published a fiction novel. He submitted a rough go through to like 100 publishers and one picked it up. He was advanced $2500 and 10% of the profit (not sale price) of the book. He said they estimate it based on how many copies they think it will sell and then do the math backwards.

I don't know how many it sold probably not many. He now writes copy which for him is way more lucrative. and writes fiction on the side. He also said you get NOTHING until you've sold enough to recoup the advance. which in his case was like 2500 copies or so. there is nearly 50% margin on book sales. so if it sells for 20 bucks, it cost 10 bucks in COGS/overhead and you net 10% of 10 bucks or $1 for every book sold.

The original publishing date is 3/16/2021. It's been out for almost 18 months on hardcover. Paperback was March 2022.

I find it nearly impossible to believe she is selling 14 books per month. I'd love to know the actual total number of copies sold. That Amazon rank number will continue to drop pretty severely. She can post on twitter all day long, but her relevance is pretty non-existent.

For point of comparison, the Mom of a childhood friend wrote a Biographical Historical Fiction book and it was originally published in 2011. She's not any kind of national anything....she was always an artist / painter in the Chicago area. I bought a copy to be supportive....read it....it was decent. Not sure how high her book ever ranked but as of today being over 10 years old....rankings as follows:
Kindle Ranking = 2,973,018
Paperback Ranking = 2,162,129

I highly doubt July's book has sold much more in terms of overall copies.
