Aside from the location, it's a better location.

I simply meant the name of the team is the Chicago Bears but they won't be in Chicago but I say I'm from Chicago but I never lived in Chicago but I was born in Chicago.

The were once the Decatur Staleys. Maybe they'll change their name to the Arlington Heights Thoroughbreds.

A rendering released by the city of Chicago shows a proposed plan to enclose Soldier Field.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot unveiled plans for Soldier Field that could cost up to $2.2 billion as part of her ongoing campaign to keep the Bears from skipping town for Arlington Heights — or at least deflect blame if the venerable sports team leaves. Lightfoot’s presentation, delivered at Soldier Field to a group including top city business leaders, said her administration wants the Bears to stay in Chicago but also make improvements to the Museum Campus it sits on even if they leave.
The first option would be to enclose the stadium with a dome. Another option would rebuild the stadium to make it “dome ready” with columns at both end zones, while the third would modify the venue at a multipurpose facility better suited for soccer “while improving its flexibility” for other events.
“Soldier Field must be a year-round destination,” Lightfoot said.

I wouldn't vote for her, but I like it. Call me old-fashioned, but I prefer the teams that I root for to play in the city they're named after.

soldier field is starting to look like a home in one of those countries where the value of the currency fluctuates so much that people immediately construct additions to their homes when they get paid so as to retain the value of the money

I have to admit, I like the design and think that without the change, tear down that crap stadium and let that shit franchise go to hell.

$2.2B? Gtfoh in any event.

Hideous, as hideous as the souls of the people who are celebrating the move to Arlington Heights because it will be free from Da Blacks.

You have sportsbooks popping up everywhere these days, kinda makes the cities decision to not allow the team to build some type of sports gambling venue at Soldier Field look silly, but then again there is a very long list of odd decisions the city has made and continues to make on a daily basis, and this one will not result in anyone getting killed or carjacked, so not really that important in the grand scheme of things.

That said, George has proven himself to be completely and utterly incompetent as the decision maker, so there is a very real possibility that he screws this up.

It would seem the most logical use would be as a legacy venue for the city, fits right in as a part of the museum complex, great chance for some politically connected goof to make tons of money grifting the city by charging groups to hold events while the city hemorrhages money because they have to maintain an aging facility, this is the most likely outcome, the quintessential "Chicago way".

Putting a massive Casino on the site with a new "World's Largest Sportsbook" makes more sense because you likely get the betting companies to eat the costs and will get tons of revenue.

Bears fans are easily the most fiercely loyal of all of the sports teams in the city. Possibly the country also. If they sellout the City by bouncing to Arlington, at some point the loyalty will wane. And wane significantly. The "shiny" new stadium thing wears off after awhile
And when it does the "drive to Arlington Heights" will be a helluva lot less attractive for MANY. Book it!

There is nothing meat and potatoes or blue collar about Arlington Heights. Besides, only deplorable people would want to move closer to Green Bay.

There will be a noticeable drop-off in the level of support. Big difference between having the Chicago Lakefront and "Booming" downtown area as a backdrop and whatever it is they have in Arlington Heights that's for sure.

I think that's part of the point of the move, isn't it?

Not unlike the Democratic Party, the Bears are turning their backs on their working-class roots in hopes of finding greater financial success by appealing to the PMC.

They'll learn "those people" aren't as fervent and that they lose interest quickly. They'll demand the Bears move by 2040.

They’ll own extremely valuable property.

It won't be more "valuable" than the property on the Lakefront. Contrary to popular (CFMB) belief.

Financially they will be set. But the interest in the team will diminish. That's my point.

Your point is wrong, and the sun will rise in the East.

The Bears have sucked for the better part of 10+ years and they are still, by far, the team that moves the meters most in this city. There is absolutely no doubt about this. They could play in a high school stadium in the middle of a cow pasture and this would still be the case.

Them moving will only generate further interest and attendance.

No it won't. The reason that people accept the "suckage" is because more than any other team in this city, they are "revered" as "Chicago's Team". By the way this goes back much longer than "10 years" Maybe for you this isn't the case, but then again no one has ever confused you for a guy has his hands on the "pulse" of this city either.

How many Bears games have you attended over the last few years? How many Bears posts do you have over the last few years? You aren't the person the Bears are catering to as you are barely a fan.

The Bears playing in a new suburban stadium will be fine. Interest in the team will not be hurt in the slightest. For every person that would give up their Solder Field season tickets, there will be three or four others willing buy them in AH.

I would offer you a bet, but you would decline anyway. We can make it a signature or avatar bet if you want.

their in-game attendance didn't seem to be affected much when they had to play downstate in champaign in 2002. it was temporary, but people made the commute which was much farther.

i think it'll just make 290W a freakin' nightmare.

This notion that Chicago will lose interest in the Bears if they move to a new stadium in Arlington Heights is ridiculous, just like Bear Weather and them somehow being extra blue-collar tough.

I guarantee that I know much more about the History of The Bears than you do. I also guarantee that I know much more about Bear Fandom than you do. They will sellout for 10-15 years and then no one will much give a shit.

And if you think that it is more important for them to "cater" to people in the suburbs as opposed to "diehard" fans in Chicago then you really are dumb as dogshit. But then I knew that anyway.

I don't know about interest waning. It's possible. I think if Soldiers gets domed, it's pretty special. Sightlines may be the best in the NFL. I've been in Dallas' Stadium. You need binoculars.
