I don't think it'll matter. The universe or a great Chicagoan will do something to make sure the Bears can't build in Arlington Heights.

I think the more realistic answer would be, "The Bears and McCaskeys suck, but the Jags still have a Wild Card shot so I'm rooting for them the rest of the way!"

The talk of a second team is 100% driven by fan hatred of the McCaskeys/Phillips, which is largely deserved. When Virginia croaks and the kids sell, hopefully Jeff Bezos buys the team and restores respectability.

Why would we want Bezos? I don't want anyone who doesn't bleed blue and orange.

Its not even that they suck, its just the complete ineptitude of ownership to do anything right. Moving to AH and building a new domed stadium is the right thing to do, but if Philips is involved it will surely be screwed up somehow.

Bears and White Sox ownership and upper management is just a clownshow. They are to sports franchise owners what LTG is to message board posting.

I think there are lots of fans who would be very excited to root for a new team without it hurting the Bears franchise in the least.

If you consider Bears ownership to be inept then you are going to be in line for a rude awakening when the Jaguars show what inept ownership really is.

There definitely could be two teams. The question is how does adding a second team significantly increase the value of the NFL when it would pretty much just be trading Bears fans who mostly root for teams based on proximity to water to the Chicago Jaguars.

I think the better question is why this second team would want to rent out a government-owned stadium 8 times a year.

You have been removed from this conversation because you don't even know the correct name of the Bears current home stadium even though you pay for it thru taxes to the Park Dist.

They won't have to rent out anything. And as noted idiot Ballpark Frank has told "us" Soldier's Field isn't even a landmark. I might want to double check this bit of information given the source if you know what I mean. SInce they aren't then they can tear it down and build another stadium. Problem solved.

Anybody rich enough fled for Florida long ago. Can’t handle bear weather.

I wouldn’t care if bin ladin’s corpse owned the team as long as it hired a competent GM.

That doesn't really answer the question.
There are three types of people in Chicago.
1) Bears fans.
2) Fans of other teams not named the Bears.
3) People who don't like football.

Unless the people from #3 decide to jump on the bandwagon of the Jaguars where does the increase in overall value to the NFL come from? They'll get some Bears fans, and some fans of other teams who switch because the Jags play on the lakefront and that is what they value but overall the gains by the Jags in Chicago undercut the Bears.

If the Bears leave Chicago there will be a huge dropoff in the level of interest. There is no doubt about it.

The Chicago Jaguars will just have to win at a high level immediately. That’ll get the attention of the utes.

Then, in 40yrs, people who grew up with fathers (and mothers!!) who didn’t care enough about football to pass down a love for the Bears will combine with those who love a very specific part of Lake Michigan’s coast to form a serviceable fan base.

The Bears and the NFL seem very concerned about that.

if Bears fans haven't lost interest by now I'm pretty sure they will be OK in a new football stadium in AH. Oh my, how will fans ever be able to survive watching the Bears on TV and talking about the Bears and following the team when they play in another stadium?

It's going to be tough to fill those seats in years 12-15 when you are consistently putting out a product that goes 6-11 and 5-12 every year. Chicago supports the Bears even through the "lean years". I doubt seriously that towns in the Western Suburbs will do the same.

I love the idea that people from Chicago won't go to Arlington Heights because it may take slightly longer than it took for a huge majority of them to get to Soldier Field.
