I was wondering which sports or entertainment apps that people pay for and the ones that you like. It could be audio only like Audible, SiriusXM or Apple music or a streaming service like Netflix or Hulu. I'm curious what's out there that I haven't heard of or used. I'm trying to figure out how to spend my times these days.

Here are the ones that I have that I pay for as a separate charge. I have Peacock too, but that's part of Xfinity and so far I've only watched golf on it. Thinking about getting Britbox and/or Audible.

Apple Music

SiriusXM

MLB audio

Amazon Prime

Audible, Youtube Premium (which includes youtube music), like everyone else in America I have an Amazon Prime subscription and that includes amazon shows and some free movies on amazon + Thursday night football. Spotify for the recommendation algorithms.

If I want to watch something on Netflix or Hulu or BritBox or Acorn or HBO etc, I just torrent it.

If you're looking to access streaming content on the cheap, break out your library card and sign up for these services:

Britbox and Acorn are both good for British shows; you can suscribe to both via Amazon Prime.

Did not realize that amazon was the portal those services. pretty cool. gonna try out this MHz thing. It's international shows, not just the UK. Gotta read subtitles. Read a review of A Dark Dark Man recently and wanted to watch it but it was only on this MHz service and couldn't find a torrent so I never bothered to track it down. SUMM22 gets first 2 months of MHz for the price of one after the 7 day free trial. Bunch of shit on Amazon prime that I didn't even know about.

I only directly pay for Spotify, MLB.TV and ESPN+. One of my credit cards comes with a "complementary" subscription to Peacock, but I wouldn't pay for it separately.

I definitely recommend YouTube Premium if you spend any amount of time on YouTube. Aside from no ads, you get YouTube Music and also get the ability to listen to the videos when switched to a different app or even with the screen off.

I am not sure if I waste money or not. I keep a very basic SiriusXm for in the car. Just easier then the phone to me. I also use and love Apple Music for everything else. I can't imagine every having to buy music again.

I am more confused about TV streaming and can't seem to come up with the most productive set up. Especiallt since internet, in my case Xfinity, charges so much for internet only. Many packages don't give local channels and regional sports the best way.

Lastly, and maybe this is more of a question, I am intrigued by the ad I saw the other day. It was streaming nfl games etc called NFL+ I think? So will this finally give us all live games like DirecTV always held hostage?

Direct TV Stream (formerly ATT Stream). Local channels included. Regional sports networks included. 20 simultaneous streams. So you can watch every game at once + stream porn on different devices while the wife watches HGTV in the kitchen. Youtube only allows 3. Hulu 2. Plus Direct TV Stream allows 3 off-site streams. Unlimited DVR. They even sell a cable box type device that makes watching it more like the old cable flip-flip-flip days. They also have apps for all of these devices:

Amazon Fire TV devices
Apple TV
Roku devices
Chromecast with Google TV
Android phones and tablets
ioS (Apple) phones and tablets
Samsung smart TVs

I thought you could not get the NFL Ticket via DirecStream?

Netflix- I would cancel but my wife refuses. I've already downgraded to the $10 a month, 1 screen package.

Amazon Prime- my wife get Prime every year for the free shipping. I could easily do without it.

ESPN+/Disney Plus/Hulu- This is a great package for me primarily due to hockey on ESPN+. I used to pay $150 a year for out of market hockey now I pay $168 but I receive all 3 channels for the entire year. I watch more shows on Hulu than Netflix and Amazon combined. I don't watch Disney at all but it is very popular with some people. It has all that Star Wars stuff.

Peacock- $5 a month. Probably could cancel this but I do watch Tour de France and some auto racing on Peacock.

I have Hulu live with HBO (access to Max), Disney+, ESPN+, Netflix, MLB audio, Apple Music.

The ESPN one has little value. The rest are worth it.

in regard to sports- am i missing something, bc Hulu seems significantly cheaper than YouTube TV

ive had YouTube for about 8 months now, its 65$ after the promo period ended. Still significantly cheaper than what I was paying for Directv, but at the end of the day all I really care about are the sports channels- NBC Chicago/TNT/TBS, etc. etc. It seems like Hulu has all of those for a lot less $

We had Hulu live in 2020. We switched to xFinity streaming at some point in 2021. It constantly buffered, especially with sporting events. Now we have nothing. Maybe next year I'll care about he Cubs and Sox do the VPN thing with MLBtv.
