I heard "What It Takes" by Aerosmith while driving around today. For my money, that's Aerosmith's best song (it avoids most of the cliches that Tyler started relying on around Get a Grip as well as the schmaltz of something like "Angel," and I find the early stuff to be just okay) and it's probably my favorite break up song. That got me thinking about other good break up songs. Of course, you have "The Breakup Song" by the Greg Kihn Band and there's also "Love Hurts" by Nazareth and "Love Stinks" by the J. Geils Band. What are some other people's favorites?

While not technically a break up song , “ Oh No” by The Commodores is fucking heart wrenching and anyone that’s ever been in love with a woman while she friend zones you to be with someone else ( probably all of us at some point I’m guessing ) will understand .

“Washington on Your Side” from Hamilton, wherein TJ realizes he’ll have to move on from George Washington given Washington’s close relationship with Alexander Hamilton, who’s a bit of a Caller Bob.

Break up songs are for low T betas. I prefer songs about kissing MANY beautiful women.

Got dumped by cassette freshman year of HS. The first song on it was Foreplay/Long Time by Boston, which I have to admit is a pretty good breakup song.

This was an inspired choice.

Driving home from being dumped by long-term HS/college girlfriend I heard Yesterday by the Beatles.

Just getting serious with my now-wife, she had a job offer over in WI that was hard to pass up, I was hooked on A Girl Like You by the Smithereens.

Not sure these fit your mold or not...

"Yesterday" is an excellent choice. This next one doesn't really fit the mold, but "The Night Before" is another good unrequited love Beatles song.
