The first 3 seasons of BB were mostly bad. BCS can't compete with the highs of BB, but it was a better overall show. I think the last 2 seasons of BB have made MANY forget about the early suckage.

Some would invert your BB analysis - those early days were funny as hell. An incompetent Walt trying to coordinate drug deals with stone cold killers like Tuco - and having to rely on Jesse, Combo, Brandon, and Skinny Pete to do his dirty work - was hilarious to me.

The first three seasons of Breaking Bad definitely weren't mostly bad, that's absurd. It was slower early on because they were still in the process of developing the Walter White character but it was still fantastically written and extremely compelling television. Better Call Saul was an even slower burn than BB and for a big portion of the show it felt like two distinctly different shows at once, the lawyer world and the cartel world. Meanwhile Breaking Bad was able to better fuse these separate worlds together.

To say any part of BB was mostly bad is just insane.

I thought the finale was fine. Could’ve been a lot worse, but it inverted the guy’s whole character in about 5 minutes after almost 15 years of TV. It made sense within the framing of the episode but not necessarily consistent with a character whose survival instincts have been favorably compared to a cockroach.

And now I’m going to assume the cartel kills him within a few weeks, which arguably would’ve made for a worse closing scene.

The fly episode was the worst single episode of prestige tv ever to air.

BB got interrupted with a writer's strike in Season 1 which is why it ended so oddly.

BB is a far more action-packed and entertaining show.

BCS is a feast for the creators and writers to indulge all of their artistic ideas. I'm always shocked when I hear people state that it is better that BB.

BCS is a good show. Glad I watched it but it's not even close. What is your favorite BCS moment? I can name 10 from BB off the top of my head.

I am on record as hating that episode. But it does not make that part of BB bad.

Being consistently good isn't as exciting as occasional greatness.

What's your favorite Sammy Sosa season? What is your favorite Hank Aaron season

One of my favorite BB scenes is Saul and Walt in the basement about to disappear and Saul explains to Walt how screwed his family is.

I think that is Bob Odenkirk's best scene in any of the series.

As with MANY things, it's a matter of preference. I binge watched BB in the past year. It took everything in me not to tapout after the first season.

Yeah, that was great. That’s the writers playing 3-dimensional chess. It was perfect.

I felt bad because the guy was so excited about making guacamole.

Along that line, I loved Walt's response to Hank saying, "I don't even know who you are."

"If that is the case, then perhaps your best course of action would be to tread lightly."

Yeah, that's a great one too. Hank's work in that scene is top-notch.

I absolutely love Pine Barrens. I hate the Fly Episode.

There is no doubt way more great moments in BB and Sopranos compared to BCS.

Pine Barerens was a great episode in of itself, but in terms of the overall Sopranos story line...it ended up being wasteful filler. There was a lot of that with the Sopranos, which is why in MY list of great shows, it sits in line behind The Wire and BB. David Chase seems to think open ended unresolved story lines is cute and artsy...I find it lazy and sloppy.

It's not a Chase thing though, right. It's a "do you want to spoon-feed your audience" or do you respect their intelligence. We've seen a billion movies that end with the good guy killing the bad guy or some bad guy redeeming himself by becoming good. Boring as hell. Give me open ended any day of the week over all the cliched and predictable stuff.

The Jimmy vs. Chuck storyline was great. The last episode was great. Every episode other than that was somewhere between average to good. I think a lot of the issue is that they had to fill storyline to match up to the number of episodes they wanted to do. That's why Jimmy spent a whole year selling cell phones with the payoff being "Hey, drug dealers need lawyers. Why don't I represent drug dealers". That's why we spent a year watching Germans dig a hole. Lalo was a great character with a subpar overall storyline.

Kim Wexler, while the best female character they ever did, was still the same type of irrational and illogical type that all the others were. The overall theme I noticed from how women were written is they were often written as the moral center of a male character until that was no longer helpful to the storyline where they did an immediate switch to be as good or worse than the person they were paired with. Kim leaves Saul, quits as a lawyer, leaves the state, drops all contact with Jimmy, and moves on in life. She gets one phone call and decides to confess and then go work for a legal aid organization but then Jimmy puts himself in jail for the rest of his life and then it's like "Ok, let's hang out some more".

I do think a lot of the issues with BCS are just because of the inability to overcome the fact that the characters we cared about all had very little room for interesting content as Mike, Gus, and even Saul all had their storylines really start after the events of BCS so it was cool to see some background storyline about them but I couldn't help but watch the entire Gus vs. Lalo battle like I'm watching a replay of a football game I already know who won. That's why Chuck vs. Jimmy was so good because outside of knowing that Jimmy still could practice law the entire thing was open ended as Saul Goodman didn't even exist at the time.

ok, finally finished this off last night. Can someone explain to me why Saul blew up his 7 year plea deal to willingly take a 85 year stretch?

And anyone saying this show was even close to BB is just a tasteless moron with a severe case of recency bias and AIDS.
