When Cease starts doing that thing where he falls backwards off the mound after each pitch, he’s near the end of his outing.

As I type, he’s fucking around with Maldonado, who fields like an Astro but hits like a White Sock.

This should probably be the last inning for Cease. The bats have to find a way to pick him up.

Not a fan of pinch-runnin' for a great hitter.

Same thing last night. Pinch-runners rarely help. You need Eloy for extra innin's!!!

I liked Grandal better when the bat was glued to his shoulder.

Time for Hendricks's histrionics.

This would be a HUGE win with Detroit leadin' Cleveland.

Verlander has given up 10 runs (7 earned) to the White Sox and 26 runs (21 earned) in his 19 other starts.

They should have lit him up early.

Astros have scored maybe two legitimate runs in these two games. The defense is setting us up for an infuriating end.

The Sox (particularly so considering they are down 2 BIG bats) just aren't built that way. They are supposed to be a "power hitting team" but aren't. At least not this season anyway. They're also slow of foot and have to play station to station.

Their primary means of winning games will be starting pitching. They aren't going to outslug anyone as presently constituted. Too many guys at the back end of the order hitting near the Mendoza line or below on a regular basis to ever get a rally going.
The good thing is that the guys that they really depend on to hit have hit. At least for avg though not for power, which means they will be able to score SOME runs to keep them in games.

I really cannot explain the power outage by guys like Abreu who is experiencing a great season in terms of average and walks. You'd think he'd be pounding the ball this year given that info but it looks like he will have a career low in HR.

I’m assuming they changed the ball.

Aside from Judge, who plays at a field with little league dimensions, power is down around the league.

The Sox are playing perhaps their best baseball since last summer, and the D is still allowing unearned runs and extra bases nearly every game. Sure due to the terrible division they're still in it, and will probably/likely win the Central. It will be another early exit for them though because of the walks and defense.

Every game the opposing team goes full speed around first on a single to the OF in anticipation of taking an extra base on these guys.

Without the power, the lack of speed really shows. They need multiple hits to score a run, but have many regulars that can't go 1st to 3rd, or score from 2nd, on a single. It might take a triple to score Grandal from 2nd.... They are basically a "small ball" team that doesn't do any of the typical small ball things very well.

For now, I'm just going to enjoy the wins. However, you just know that the defense, baserunning, lack of power is going to kill them in the end. (If I was smarter, this is where I insert the matrix or thanos "inevitable" gif)

Game 1, with the crooked number in the 8th, was impressive. Last night, not so much.

Harrison couldn't get to 2nd on a hit that may have been a double for Grandal. Some of these guys shouldn't be regular players. The White Sox don't have any other options.
