If you're a man and your wife ends up murdered to death, well, your ass is going to prison. You weren't involved? You have a solid alibi? There's another
obvious perp with means, motive and opportunity? Does not matter. The police and prosecutor will literally work in concert with your wife's actual killer to prosecute you for her murder and you will be convicted and end up in prison for life for something you had no involvement in. Take the plea deal. You're at least guilty of not preventing your wife from being murdered, which is job one for a husband.
