We all do. Some of us realize it and work daily to get better.

But others, who were told that they were stupid liars on a daily basis growing up, then go out into the world and act stupid, and tell lies.
They are at odds with the world on a daily basis because that's all they know.

Imagine thinking you're the good guy in this story.

This is modern "liberalism" in a nutshell. You don't agree with me? FUCK YOU! You voted for my opponent? Look at the fighter jets at my disposal!

I always try to remind myself that on a real base level 99% of the people around you are engaged in, essentially, the same daily existence. Everyone is just trying to support themselves, provide for their family, grow/better themselves, not injure others, improve their live, etc. It's not always easy to do, and can get lost in the briskness of daily life, but I really like to ground myself in a mindset like that as often as I can.

I find when I do that it's a lot easier to be empathetic to others, be quick to forgive transgressions - especially the tiniest, and also be generous to others. But I struggle with it just like every other human being does.

Sure, but it's one particular pole that seems to believe that they are inherently more virtuous. And the evil facsist orange guy never threatened to nuke Biden voters. At least not that I recall.

Yeah, that's a good approach and I try to do it myself. There are people out there who are just assholes though.

That is why I said 99% of people are the same, I'd guess that only 1% of humans are pure assholes. I'd even say that most of the people you see acting like assholes, really aren't, they are just part of the 99% of us and might be having a tough day and that happens to us all.

I like Dickens' line from A Christmas Carol

"think of people below them as if they really were fellow-passengers to the grave, and not another race of creatures bound on other journeys.”

Aren't you doing the same? Walking around paranoid that your neighbors know your vaccination status. Believing that old blind women are judging you because you're not wearing a mask. Projecting insecurities on your community. Boycotting local businesses (you made an exception for the Sox) because they followed government rules instead of paying a fine.

You don't believe that Republicans haven't seen themselves as inherently more virtuous than Democrats for decades? This is quite a revisionist narrative you're weaving. The whole ideological architecture of neoliberalism relies on cultural divisions in which both political parties involved claim to occupy the high moral ground.

My favorite, which I discovered in "Pete the Cat's Groovy Guide to Life" when my oldest was about four years old, is: "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle". It's attributed to Plato in the book but who knows.

Of course he is. Much of his rhetoric revolves around the concept of public shaming, which is the dominant discursive mode of neoliberalism.

We would all be wealthy beyond our wildest dreams if we succeeded 20% of the time.

 No. Republicans see themselves as cruel but they believe cruelty works best for everyone. Anyway, we're not really talking about Republicans here. We're talking about people who have been left behind. Most of them probably voted Democrat at one time.

I have ZERO concerns about the vaccination status of my neighbors. I only hope they haven't poisoned themselves based on misinformation. And I'm pretty sure I don't have to guess about someone judging me for not wearing a mask when they jump back or ask why I'm not wearing one. The Sox never made me wear a mask or show a vaxx card.

I don’t care about the people in my community like I used to. I see how they vote and the shitty signs and flags they have in their yard. I’ll continue to be a productive member of society and abide by the laws but I don’t do randomly nice things for people I don’t know anymore.

Imagine thinking you're the good guy in this story.

This is modern "liberalism" in a nutshell. You don't agree with me? FUCK YOU! You voted for my opponent? Look at the fighter jets at my disposal!

Of course he is. Much of his rhetoric revolves around the concept of public shaming, which is the dominant discursive mode of neoliberalism.

I think you're projecting. I've never publicly shamed anyone. I mind my own fucking business.

Shaming...

Prior to 2020 there had never been a vaccine for any coronavirus. There still isn't.

 No. Republicans see themselves as cruel but they believe cruelty works best for everyone. Anyway, we're not really talking about Republicans here. We're talking about people who have been left behind. Most of them probably voted Democrat at one time.

In that case, do you actually read this board?
