I always wanted to go to Atlantis, they have packages but I don't think it's all inclusive.

We did a dolphin thing there on a stop with a cruise. It was massive and looked fun. Aquariums, a dolphin thing, huge waterslides, a casino, garden area, golf, spa, beaches, snorkeling, kayaking/paddleboarding/waterbikes, fishing, island excursions, I want to say they had concerts and comedians that were semi famous in their theater, and the food is suppose to be good. It's right off of Nassau so I might ferry over and see what they offered too. My family doesn't sit around well. We are pretty active on vacations and need a big thing or 2 - 3 little things to do a day. It seemed like it would fit everything for us.

Atlantis is great. It is not all inclusive, but you can purchase a breakfast and dinner package at considerable additional expense. The drinks will kill you too…..

The “lazy” river is the best I have ever been on. The water slides are scary as hell. And it has the largest amount of fish in captivity if memory serves, and there are giant aquariums all over the property. My kids did the dolphin thing. It was okay.

Not really. You decided to parade around Europe with your mother in law. Others might decide to sit on a beach at an all inclusive. Still others will go fishing while at Disney World.

The food and entertainment will be better.

We’ve done both (including Celebrity this Summer) and we enjoyed both but I don’t necessarily agree with your reasoning. We did an AI in Punta Cana and the food was generally very good (Celebrity had a few misses as well) but the primary benefit was the premium beach drinks and lazy lifestyle. A cruise tends to have a more active agenda. That said, if your not looking to hang at the beach as the OP noted, then a cruise would seem to make more sense than a place catering to that activity.

Not really. At U of I, we told people what suburb we were from because it seemed like half the campus was from the Chicago burbs.

The reason suburbanites tell people they are from Chicago is because when you travel out of the country or somewhere like NY, no one knows Naperville or Schaumburg. I continue to be baffled why you city snobs worry that us Mecca folk say we are from Chicago or even worse from the fictional Chicagoland.

im from rockford but tell people chicago because everyone knows illinois is a vast wasteland of shit anyway

Generally speaking - this does not apply to everybody - people who care about this are typically enormous twats.

Saying ‘Chicago’ is a courtesy to the listener - some guy from the UK doesn’t know Naperville v. Bronzeville, Lincoln Park v. Oak Park, etc. Same is true when speaking to anybody who didn’t grow up within 90 miles of the city. You’re providing a reference point absent the arrogance of assuming that person knows your area of the country so intimately he’ll have a clue what you’re saying.

It’s like some asshole tells you he’s from Chiswick instead of London. If you have no idea what he’s talking about, he’s the asshole, not you.

In most cases, it's not even the lifelong Chicagoans who get a bug up their ass about this but rather people who grew up in the suburbs themselves and moved to the city after college. Zeal of the convert. No one patrols who's really from Chicago more than someone who's really from Hoffman Estates.

When I lived in Detroit in the mid to late 90's people would say Royal Oak, Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills or whatever suburb they lived in when traveling. At some point it flipped and now everyone's from Detroit again, mostly. Southeast Michigan was always a good compromise if you actually lived in Detroit proper and didn't want to admit it back then. Or "North Windsor" if you're a smart ass. Note to Journey: these is no south Detroit, that's Canada.

People were always big on "Southeast Wisconsin" in Walkerstan when they were ashamed/scared/contemptuous of Milwaukee proper. (Milwaukee was always a reach for any sort of suburban light rail system, but it was definitely never gonna happen because Waukesha County was scared that The Blacks were going to ride to New Berlin.) Maybe that has died down now that the Bucks won.

We just booked Secrets in Cap Cana in the DR. Since I have yet to go there, I cannot weigh in on its quality but it was a top pick on Trip Advisory.

I have gone to all inclusives for years but not really to adult only ones. In my experience, everything in Mexico is weaker than other places. Most resorts have the same problems, pretty crappy liquor and food that gets boring by day three. The biggest exception is Beaches in the Turks. The Hard Rock in Punta Cana was a close second. Most of the rest are like I said.

It is tough to get cheap all inclusives especially with flight costs today. And of course you get what you pay for food and drink quality wise. Mexico has the cheapest and plenty of good areas, but you would be better off going to a non all inclusive and venturing out to local restaurants to eat. The breakfast buffets make me gag at most of these places.

+1 on the endorsement of Hard Rock in Punta Cana.

Too many adverbs? It’s too many adverbs, isn’t it? Generally and typically shouldn’t be in the same sentence describing the same thing.

My proofreading skills can be DiCaroan at times.

By entertainment do you mean watching 3000 pre-diabetics gorge themselves at the all you can eat buffet?

That's Carnival Cruises to a T. That's why you book a more premium line like Celebrity, Princess, or Holland America if you want to enjoy a relaxing cruise.

Funny enough, my friend Alex who was born in Russia and a Cardinals fans owing to his Mizzou education, pulled that crap on me. He lived off Waveland and gave me shit for telling people I am from Chicago.

And I am actually from Hoffman Estates as I grew up in a house that backed up to Rte 72 (remember me posting the article tot drives car?) Spent fifth grade on in the Mecca. Conant is also in H.E.

You can find a waterslide and a vertically challenged person anywhere. Nearly everyone I know who stayed at Atlantis did so just to say they stayed there. I'm not saying you should be adventurous enough to roam the streets when the armed guards/officers aren't out at night, but the Bahamas is so much more than Atlantis.

Chicago is one of my top five American cities and in many ways my favorite. I believe I have largely spoke favorably of Chicago on this board.

The trajectory of the state is a big concern to me. The federal covid money and economic boom in tax collections has granted the long term fiscal issues a nice reprieve. The hefty tax burden and long term prospects continue to put Illinois in the negative relative category.
