Looks like the typical line job on a sixteen inch softball field.

Another reason we have to stop the move to Arlington Heights is so that these funny things keep happening.

the drainage was been sited as one of the problems with the field quality in general over the years. Reminds me of the old bellow flop on tarp during baseball rain delays. Grass actually seems to be staying together better but the day is young.

Field holding up better than I thought it would. I figured whole pieces of sod would be coming loose.

The turf looks basically non-existent at this point. All I see is mud & standing water.

The Bears get it right again. Players don't like the turf. There's no league wide consistency.

the inconsistency of turf baffles me. grass all depends on type of soil and amount of sun a place gets... but turf is something that could easily be managed in a way that is exactly the same across all stadiums, and it isnt. the mixture of rubber and sand + grooming methods should be standardized... but it seems like they change according to the stadium much like baseball will massage their infields according to what team theyre playing.

Saquon Barkley disagrees.

That was a contact injury.

Having played baseball (& having dove) on field turf, I'd disagree.

Yeah, but we're talking about a well manicured highly watered professional field.

So he clearly won't play for New York, there is no way they can ever have a grass field there playing on it that many weeks in a row. Maybe they should just not play football, this isn't a reality. To many other events that these facilities host and Detroit ain't giving up that field, just like Minnesota.

I don't know why the Bears don't have the same reinforced grass that the Packers do. That seems to serve them well.

I think the artificial surfaces have to continue to evolve. They're still leading to far too many non contact injuries. The players recognize this. That's all he/they are saying.

Does Lambeau host concerts etc where it has to be frequently replaced or is it only used for Packer games?

They host more non-football events since the big renovation than they used to, outdoor college hockey games and maybe the occasional concert, but not as much as Soldier Field, which itself still sits idle for the vast majority of the year.

If you're referring to tonight's game, State Farm Stadium is natural(Bermuda) grass.
