With the stolen base being out of fashion I don't think the modern fan can really understand just how remarkable what Wills did was in the time that he did it.

Just as people now judge Christopher Columbus and Thomas Jefferson by 21st Century standards, so too do they judge ballplayers based upon the philosophies and ideals of today. That's why people retroactively believe Ferris Fain should have batted leadoff instead of Aparicio and that Dwight Evans was more valuable than Jim Rice.
