California is a shithole, junkies shitting in the streets, rampant crime.

illinois dems weren't liberal until this decade. Sure you had a niche of people from the lakefront but all of the big players bent more right wing

This also isn't entirely true. I know of 4-5 families personally that moved to Florida during the COVID because they wanted their kids to have IN-PERSON schools and were tired of the mandates and lockdowns of 2020 and that extended into 2021. Many people are fleeing to RED states for freedom from overreaching government, lower crime and lower taxes.

Liberalism is destroying this country, not climate change.

Rick's post had nothing to do with climate change, Bobby. And Florida's population has been growing for decades. It's largest increase in the past 25 years was in 2000. I'm sure, though, that migration was just a pre-emptive response to COVID regulations.

I'll let you believe that people don't move to Florida because of the weather if you want.

Weird, if it was all about weather, wouldn't people be fleeing to California as well? But they are losing population.
There are plenty of places with just as good of weather as California.

There is a reason that the south and Texas are seeing a large majority of the population expansion in America.

Still though, if you think people just happen to choose Florida in huge numbers to move to and it has nothing to do with the weather then go ahead.

Texas has a relatively average tax burden. It's basically the same as Indiana.

Are you suggesting that the only difference between California and Florida is COVID overreach?

No, California also has higher crime and higher taxes.

my kids were in school and I didn't have to rip them out of their environment to do it

which part of Florida doesn't have crime?

I guess being able to drink at the original Hooters a few months before everyone else made the decision worth it

It was a private school then.

My public school was open all but the first 3 weeks of the 20-21 school year.

People move to Florida because of the weather. If Florida was located where Wyoming is, no one would be moving there regardless of how Red the state is. Kinda of like Wyoming is now.

Yet nobody can explain California's population loss....in San Diego, the high for December/January is 68 Degrees. Seems quite balmy. Why aren't people fleeing there?

whose tuition was more than covered by closing and moving costs

Thanks for proving my point. If you wanted your kids IN-SCHOOL in 2020, you had to shell out for private school..one of the reasons people fleed this shithole state.

My public schools kids were able to attend in person in 2020 and 2021. My private school kid had their school shutdown twice.

Has anything been happening in the San Diego area recently that might discourage people from moving there? What about Southern California more broadly?

Seems like there is alot of crime and immigration issues, no? Add to that cost of living there.

Why is California by far the most populous state in the nation?

The state of California's population declined 0.3% between 2021 and 2022, according to population estimates released Monday by the state Department of Finance. That's a decline of 117,552 residents

Why do roughly 10 million more people live in California than any other state?

If your argument is that people wouldn't leave California because the weather is great then my argument is that more people live in California than anywhere because the weather is great.

Why is the most populous state, with great weather, losing population, while states like Florida, with great weather is gaining population..hmm what's the common denominator.

people have been retiring to Florida for 75 years

Yeah, cause their pensions don't get taxed there. Unless you are filthy rich, retirees aren't moving to California. The taxes will empty your savings.

Pensions don't get taxed in Illinois either.
