Her version of "Beauty and the Beast" is just wonderful. I could listen to that on a loop.

Yep. Pat Summerall would always pause at the comma, "Murder, She Wrote".

Ferguson was goofy fun. Dunno why he quit his show, reportedly over compensation? His timing was off, a
few years later and he'd have been a social media star with his intros alone:

I think they must be writing staff, the other dancers? Somehow Ferguson found the only black guy in Hollywood who can't come into a song on beat.

He got $10M not to be Letterman's replacement

The rumor I heard was that they were phasing out Peter Lassaly, who was Carson's EP and was Ferguson's mentor when it came to late night. And Ferguson wanted no part of it.

I thought that CBS should have given him and Kristin Bell an hour a week for a longer form talk show, one monologue and one guest a week. He was by far the best pure interviewer on late night other than when Bob Costas started Later at 12:30 Eastern. Can you imagine Jimmy Fallon interviewing Desmond Tutu??

Edited to add: Craig and Kristen being adorable for the cold open. https://youtu.be/Qfn0Dt1vJg8

60 minutes timer was the countdown to getting my damn homework done I had put off all weekend. We have watched a bit of this show again in the past, my youngest seems to like it and it had a bit of nostalgia to me. The weekly guest stars were interesting. A young Brian Cranston making an appearance.

10 mil consolation prize part of Ferguson's original contract to take over The Late Late Show from Kilborn? Nice consolation prize if so.

That clip of Bell and Ferguson unscripted and natural is a good argument for them having some sort of regular talk show. Somewhere among Larry and Robin on WGN mornings and Regis and whomever at Regis' best and drunk Giangreco macking on Janet Davies on NYE. I like how Ferguson gets a dig in at Fallon's vanilla-ness and then drops the mic with the checking out her ass line. It's what you expect but don't expect from someone on network TV.

Ferguson's only 60? So he was in his mid-to-late 40's mostly during his Late Late show years. Man, he already looked a decade older than his age. Maybe a Scottish thing, maybe a recovered alcoholic thing, the premature aging.

"murder, she wrote" and "quincy" were my mom's favorite two shows, and they were very similar in format. like "columbo", which she also loved.

she was also great in "gaslight", everybody's favorite movie to reference with a word they love to throw around.

but if you really want to dig deep, check out "positive moves"...at your own risk.

Not every episode I don’t think but from what I recall you knew who did it before Fletcher did but you watched her put the pieces together. The best was when they did a crossover with “Magnum, PI”.

Definitely the alcohol, acid, cocaine, and yeah the Scottish thing doesn't help either. I saw a local Glasgow comedian, Gary Little, at the Fringe festival a couple months ago. He had a bit about his friend dying of a heart attack in his mid-50s. That thing is just sort of accepted.
