I don't go on here very often but I'm hoping to get some feedback (please only thoughtful/constructive ideas, suggestions, etc.) about the show. It's been slightly over a month and I'm open to any input you may have, positive or negative that I can use to hopefully improve the product. Thanks for listening, and I'll be in touch soon.

Actually, I think Hampton is getting better every day and the chemisty is starting to form. I'm just wondering how he'll do when football season is over.

Scrap the Pulse. it's a bad segment that Larry does most of the talking anyway.

I'd rather talk about your former experience on the MNMS!

Definitely. It's a segment that doesn't even deserve a name or an explanation and is just long-winded way of saying "we're gonna take some calls now". I know what it's supposed to be, but that's lame too, so just dump it.
I'll bite my tongue on my other comments until a later time.

Don't listen to them about Larry Holmes' The Pulse, Webby.

Maybe they just don't understand what it's all about.

And again, it's about you, meaning me...

Right. It's a chance for you, the Score listener, to program the show. Don't you see? You can talk about anything you want to talk about. The Pulse is you calling up Larry and talking on the radio. It's quite something. I'll give you some examples of what you can talk about.

You can talk about the Sox. You can talk about the Cubs. You can talk about the Bears. Or other amazing topics such as these. Larry constantly reminds us. Don't you see? It's the pulse. It's unique. It's amazing.

OK, here's a real thought. Tell Holmes not to be afraid to call Hampton out if he says something that is wrong.

DH completely misrepresented the facts of a baseball game and presented it as a turning point. LH just kind of moved on. It would have been far more interesting had he called him out. We're all thinking it. He should say it.

I haven't listened much since so maybe this has been addressed. My $0.02.

Ok Webber. Here is how you fix the show.

(1) Tell Larry to stop with this "Hi (caller), what do you have to say about (team)." He sounds like a jack ass.

(2.) Tell Larry to stop talking down to his listeners like we're 4 years old.

(3.) Tell Larry not to patronize his listeners.

(4.) Tell Larry to stop being "the wide eyed wonderer".

(5.) Tell Larry to stop making the simple complicated and the complicated simple.

(6.) Tell Larry to stop trying to be Bernsie.

(7.) Tell Hampton to lay off the sauce. Maybe the words will come to him quicker if he does.

(8.) Give Hampton a list of all the cliches. Have him memorize them so he doesn't fuck them up anymore.

Why have 2 and 3, when 6 would have been sufficient?

Bernsie doesn't talk to his listeners like they're kids. To the contrary. He will patronize the stupid callers.

Larry has this phony "Mr Rodgers" thing going. It's bullshit.

(in the interests of actually providing constructive criticism, I will refrain from calling LoHo "larry" for this post :-) )

4th the motion to kill "The Pulse" It's the definition of sports radio, not a bit.

Play LoHo a tape of today's B&B. Specifically him doing the Bears report. Remind him that THAT'S what got him his current gig. Be the "Bears beat" LoHo from 10-12 and we will listen. I used to listen to his fill in shows at night all the time and they were great (except for The Pulse). Maybe it would take somebody like a DAHHH MAHHH NEAHHLL or Bernsie knocking him off his self created throne to get him back to being himself, but that's what he needs to do. Nobody who listens like what he has become (and the ratings are going to prove that).

Hamp...... greatly appreciate your contributes to the Beloved over the years. As far as being anything more than a decent "football expert".... I got nuttin....

Oh and get rid of The Pulse :-)

SOLID! Except for #8 - I enjoy the mistakes of Hamp or Yogi Berra or President Bush or Mayor Daley #1 - long live Malapropisms!

Get rid of Larry. I'm reasonably sure the Pulse will go with him. If Pulse somehow stays, we can take a stick to it...

I've thought of some more things Webber...

(9.) Tell Larry to stop saying he's "sooooo excited" or "really really excited" about the show, talking to callers or watching games. No he's not. This goes to patronizing I guess. Nobody buys this fake enthusiasm.

(10.) Talk about race. I know we all used to make fun of Larry for this when he was solo show. But with Hampton there this would make for some great, awkward radio.

Larry - Hamp, what do you think of black people? Did you hang with black kids growing up in Arkansas? What our your thoughts on race relations in this country.

Hampton - Well, Larry, my little buddy, let me tell you my thoughts on.....uh.....uh.....

Larry - Race relations?

Hampton - Yes. Race relations. Growing up, I'll be honest, I didn't have many black friends. They lived on the other side of the tracks. We didn't bother each other. That's the way it was in the 1960s. But when I went to college some of my best friends were black. When I got to the Bears Otis Wilson was one of my best friends. He and I nailed more broads than any Chicago athlete combo in the history of this city.

Larry - That's a great story. I'm really, really, really happy to hear you say that.

Daaahhhhh Mahhhhh Neeeaahhll = Mackeyfish = Dangerous :-)

It's an old school name for Danny Mac. That's what B&B call him on the air now so as not to directly talk about the competition and piss of Mitch.

Larry - Like I said, Hamp, I'm glad to hear you say that. Cuz, let's face it, we have a lot of racist people listening to us. When they hear a guy like you - a 1985 Bear and a Hall of Famer - talk about being accepting and even friends with black people I think that will make some of our racist listeners not be racist. Don't you agree, Hamp?... Hamp? Did you hear me?

Hampton - Oh, sorry little buddy. The channel 5 girls just walked by. We had a little moment. They were all waving to me. They're so cute. Yes, absolutly. It's important to discuss race issues. Listeners, don't be racist. Take it from good ole 99.

Larry - Anyway, we'll be back with "The Pulse" after this break. For those of you who haven't heard "The Pulse" I'll explain it for 10 minutes.

Webby, a few things.

1 Tell Laurence to stop talking to people like they are stupid. He isnt the only one with a college degree and just because the caller might not agree with him, its not because he is a 7th grade drop-out.

2. Hamp needs to actually prepare more. He has made so many mistakes when talking about baseball and basketball that its getting past funny.

3. Tell Laurence to just be himself, he doesnt need to be Dan or Terry, when he is himself, he isnt half bad, but it sounds like to me that he feels he needs to fit in and it sounds scripted.

4. Have a ask "rodeovann" bit every day, I am willing to do this for $500 per segment.

I will say this, the show was bad the first couple weeks, but I have listened this week and it hasnt been bad.

I finally listened to this show this week, like more than a few minutes, and I didn't think it was all that bad. Hampton is probably at his ceiling here, so why bother, but to echo everyone, Laurence should drop the whole pulse gimmick and stop trying to be other people. I think it's going to be a pretty good show, at least through football season. After that, uhhh....?

This is programming and not production, so it's beyond your jurisdiction, Matt, but I have a big problem with all the schedule tinkering, which basically dicks around Murph and his loyal listeners and weakens the timeslot the station is trying to build for H&H. On some level I understand trying to feature the football guys after a Bears game since noon-2 is a better slot than 10-noon, but if such is the case, make that flip-flop a permanent one for the balance of the season, and then go back to featuring Murph at noon when it's time for baseball. As I mentioned in another thread, it unnecessarily complicates the development of a listener base when your show is "10 to noon except Mondays when it's noon to 2, or if the Bears play Monday then it's Tuesdays from noon to 2 and Monday is still 10 to noon, and if it's a Thursday then it's Fridays from noon to 2." Murph has no more thoughts until March, so the station should shit or get off the pot here. Is this your featured midday show or not?

Webby, thanks for reaching out to listeners. This one is pretty easy. Clearly, the Pulse has to go. Then I guess I'd get rid of Larry and Hampton. You might want to see if Mitch can get Mully and Hanley to do say 5am-2pm then he can ditch Murph and just have M&H and B&B all day. Actually nobody is listening from 10 to 3 or so anyway so I guess it doesn't matter what is done. Keep up the good work but kill the Pulse, please. I only hear the show breifly once or twice a week but I somehow always hear that POS segment where Larry acts like he just invented sports talk in a laboratory and is trying to explain his creature to us mere mortals. A true schwantz.

I'm liking the show more and more, I honestly never listened to 670 until I heard Hamp was starting ... I think he needs to get over the newness and be himself, he can make some pretty valid points worth listening to when he's not trying so hard. :)
