Pedro Grifol and Joe Espada have impressed White Sox officials in the interview process, sources say.

Additional managerial candidates are believed to be involved, with a final decision possible before the end of the month.

That'll make it more palatable to the DEI lovers when they dilly dally and let those guys take jobs with other organizations before they hire the white guy Jerry wanted all along.

Uncle Jerry has been one of the most progressive owners in all sports.

Yeah by hiring guys like Ozzie Guillen , Jerry Manuel and Tony La Russa , Rick Renteria , Reinsdorf sure has shown himself to be married to white guy managers.

All things considered, I'd like Bochey who knows how to win a championship. I want someone who has experience managing and demands hustle. He also knows how to put a pitching staff together and manage a bull-pen which is lacking a lot in baseball. Looking at how badly Roberts in LA has done year after year shows how important the management of a pitching staff is. For years LaRussa had Dave Duncan did that for him with the A's and Cards. Old Tony failed and one of the reasons he failed is how bad he managed a pitching staff although the talent was there.

Larry Holmes condemned any possible hiring of Jim Thome as "token cronyism". Actually saying he's prepared to hate him. Sounds more like racism from a man who's openlly spewing his message of hate on Chicago sports radio.

So the Thome thing is actually possible? I heard a blurb about it and just assumed it was people joking around.

That would be quite the Sox move. Talk about how important experience is and then hire a former player again with no experience

I don’t want Thome as a manager but he’s a pretty difficult guy to dislike personally. Leery seems like he’s just committed to being a piece of shit.

He has experience. He was coaching against me just a couple of years ago, so maybe i can be one of his assistants.

The thing about Sir, as much as he might hate this type of hire, he 100% thinks that Sir, himself, could do the job.

Larry Holmes saying "I'm prepared to hate" Jim Thome shows how out of control and unfirable he thinks he is. To have an opinion about not wanting him as the Sox manager is cool. But to use the word "hate " directed towards him is not a good look for the station. The guy and his wife do a ton of charitable work much for children's hospitals. It will be interesting if the Score scum launches a personal attack on him like TLR if he's hired.

Compare that to the reception of grandpa rossy, who had no more managerial experience when he was hired

 Wont be Bochy. You’d think an older manager with MANY skins on the wall would want to go to a young team loaded with talent on the brink of winning a World Series . Guess not .

If it wasn't for the White Sox, these mongrel Cub fans would have nothing to post about in October :D

Don’t fact check me on this - for all I know, this guy was Jerry’s valet growing up - but I’m mildly encouraged they hired somebody with no connection to the organization.

Yikes!

IIRC they interviewed him last time.

I would have to be inclined to agree. Now whether he has full reign to do things how he wants is another story.

Born in PR, speaka de Spanish, 47 years old, fair amount of MLB coaching experience:

Florida / Miami Marlins (2010–2013)
New York Yankees (2015–2017)
Houston Astros (2018–present)

Checks a lot of boxes you would think

He seemed like the right hire last time around.

I'd like to believe this means a commitment organizationally to better spending on analytics.

After the cheating scandal, I don't have an issue with them waiting. In hindsight, TLR was probably the right hire. It just didn't work out.

So when Hahn was laying out what was important in this hire he alluded to this person having experience on the bench for a successful team. I am guessing most people thought that meant as manager. Which is why guys like Bochy, Washington and Schildt were seen as the front runners. Clearly this guy has been a part of a couple successful teams. If you are not going to hire a guy that has been a manager before this is probably as solid of a hire as you can make.

Probably scared to face the music after a regrettable offseason where Abreu walks and they don't land a single impact FA

This version of Larussa wasn't the same as he was even in his most recent managing. There was zero attention to detail. He was terrible with pitching decisions. He never set a tone for the team.

TLR sleeping in the dugout mid-1st inning against KC definitely set the tone for this team.

Not so fast on the Astros guy...

Quote:
According to sources, the Chicago White Sox have had discussions with Ozzie Guillén and will interview him for their vacant managerial role next week.

Guillén's name has been linked to the role since it became clear the team would be looking for a new manager. Some fans think Guillén is the perfect manager to get the best out of the roster. Some fans would rather have a candidate without previous ties to the White Sox.

As for Guillén's stance, he has expressed interest in having the conversation.

"It is not in my plans. I don't know if it is in the White Sox' plans," Guillén said on NBC Sports Chicago earlier this month. "Even if they think I can help them for next year, I'm very open to listening to it."

But Guillén agrees with fans calling for his return.

"Let me be cocky," Guillén said. "Nobody in baseball knows this ballclub better than Ozzie Guillén."
