Never would have nightmared the Schneider character from Newsradio would be considered a thought leader for a large swath of the population.

The engaging funny guy at the end of the bar who talks about everything under the sun, needs to show some media responsibility, like CNN. He talks about the animal kingdom and prey and predators in jungles like 3x as much as COVID. Close to 50% of the time there's a comedian or multiple comedians in the other chair. He just had ANTI-conspiracist Michael Shermer on yesterday. Even Purdue Rick doesn't think Oswald was the lone gunman, but this guy does. I guess he's showing some media responsibility every now and then.

This seems to be a good argument to not trust anything heard on the Joe Rogan podcast. I will accept that answer. Thanks Nardi!

It's a good argument to be curious about all aspects of life. Mock it. It's fine. Just makes you look like a goof.

What am I mocking? You compared him to the interesting drunk at the bar just talking about random stuff but I'm the one mocking him?

Ultimately, you and me are both saying the the information learned on the show should be considered highly questionable. Would you take as fact what the guy at the end of bar talking about prey and predators said about the positive aspects of single payer healthcare?

Depends

What Naridi said....Joe Rogan has a long list of "news" outlets that need to take more responsibility before he does. This is priceless

I just wish he took his role more seriously.

Do you agree that we shouldn't really trust what is on his show is true?

You should go with the JORR rule - only trust sources that agree with you...even if they mostly include crazy Twitter posts. All the others have an agenda.

Hmm...heard a dude on Rogan's pod a while back talking about alternative ideas to deal with homelessness in California, it was an open exchange of ideas, not thought leading, but more discussing possible solutions and the pluses and minuses of each, rather odd that some call that thought leading?

How do any new ideas or concepts ever see the light of day with that mindset? It must be quite boring to engage someone like that in conversation as they would have a non-negotiable set of concepts, they would believe to be the absolute truth and would have no ability to think critically through problems and come up with unique or unthought of solutions.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that reasonable ideas or discussions are problematic and framing it that way is a bit disingenuous.

I find it incredibly interesting that I in effect said "Rogan should do his best to make sure what is being said is factual" and most of the defense is basically "It's just random people talking with no real reason to think they know what they are talking about".

There is a proponent of single payer healthcare in the other seat. So I would listen to what the that person had to say and come up with conclusions from that information like you would do and Joe Rogan would do.

What you are knocking is curiosity. That's what makes you look like a goof.

I'm not knocking it at all. If the general theme of the show is "I don't know, maybe this is correct and let's talk about it without really knowing if it is or not" then that is fine.

Ok, you're sorta getting there. I'd also like to add, due to his enormous curiosity, it makes him one of the best long form, engaging, and detailed interviewers there is in media. It is so detailed(cuz he's got 3 hours) that it really is hard to NOT come up with a conclusion.

I'm trying to give the 20,000 foot view. The problem isn't Joe Rogan. The problem is the lazy media, who watch clips, don't know him, take shit out of context, nitpick, and perform a judgement. Judge for yourself. Go pick out 3 interviews and watch them. Not clips. Get your ducks in a row about the guy and THEN I'll be all ears. Get the totality of the podcast.

What is contradictory is your idea that the podcast is simply about curiosity but also that you'll have made a conclusion about it by the end. I would think if the podcast was simply about curiosity then you wouldn't have all the information you need to make your conclusion at the end.

I said you mocked the curiosity. So now I'll say you hate curiosity because it's irresponsible.

Is the turd in the punchbowl big enough for you now?

Rogan is fundamentally different than Stewart. Stewart was a faux news show, from set design to format. Rogan is an interview show. His subjects are the people who are tasked with telling the truth. His subjects are so wide ranging and often have such a high level of expertise that it isn't fair to expect him to be able to verify their statements. If Neil Degrasse Tyson makes a false statement, not only would I not expect Rogan to dispute it, I wouldn't trust Rogan over Tyson on the subject.

It is fair game to question him when he makes an affirmative statement, like he often does with dmt.

His purge commercials are on once an hour. He's almost as popular as Charles Thomas, telling us he met Bailey.

OK, let's try to get the crayons out so maybe it will make sense.

Often try to find something that interests or distracts me while I'm out running, found a Rogan pod where some woman was trying to sell a conspiracy book.

She would not talk about the one of the central themes of her book, Rogan kept prodding her until he got her to talk about her odd take on Area 51, to which he said, "What makes you think your facts are correct", she stumbled on for another 20 minutes, but the longer she talked the more it became evident it was all just a story she had concocted.

There are also many times where he and the guest disagree on things and he asks them to frame their argument better, they either can or cannot and it becomes evident they have not considered some important variables that make their ideas implausible.

It's up to the listener to do the background research, but you do get to hear a unique take that you would not hear elsewhere.

That anecdote is basically "He had an unqualified guest and he figures out she was unqualified after 30 or so minutes".

None of you are giving Rogan any more credit than I am. I get you like the show but even you finished with that it's up to the user to figure out if the first he featured is telling the truth or not.

Joe Rogan should do the research, come up with a conclusion before he even interviews. Otherwise, it's irresponsible to go in willy nilly with an open mind. Please name and share some good interviewers who do it responsibly.

Joe Rogan may get some things wrong but as far as I know he never maliciously lied about someone because of his personal politics.

I'm not knocking it at all. If the general theme of the show is "I don't know, maybe this is correct and let's talk about it without really knowing if it is or not" then that is fine.

An interviewer should prepare for an interview.

But that lazy but wealthy fraud can't be bothered with that.

Well what are you suggesting? And why are you focusing on Rogan?
