For the first time ever in Mac's radio carear the Blackhawks have an excitment we have never seen before and I expect MJH to cover the Hawks like a blanket and be everything Hawks this season.

Wanted to ask Mackey what he has on the docket for Hawks coverage and if there will be any remotes geared towards Hawks hockey and when can we get the ice at the UC for a rat hockey game like in the old days when we would get the Rozmizen after Wolves games. Lets also moved forward about a Hawks night Mac.

Mac was drunk texting me Monday night about Hawks tickets and I have not heard from him since... :P

Hawks drop the puck tonight for real against the Rangers. Excited............

Personally, I'll be cheering the Hawks for the first time in 5 years this season.

Although the Bears are in first place and I am a season ticket holder, I am definitely looking forward to this Blackhawks' season. I just hope the goaltending doesn't disappoint like it did when they first signed Khabby. I don't have the utmost confidence in Huet, but as long as the goaltending tandem doesn't pull a George Brett, the Hawks should be good for a postseason run.

Would love a MJH outing or CSFMB outing in the near future. I'm going to the game against the Oilers on Oct 22nd.

I'll cheer for the Hawks. It know its bandwagony, but I'll probably only take a real interest if they win. I have never really cared about or followed hockey, but it seems the fanbase here is truely hungry for a winner, and that much I'll support.

Regardless of who organizes it, are we doing a CSFMB outing at a Hawks' game this year? Or is that just going to fall by the wayside again.

I just heard that clip and said WTF...I was out of town in Arkansas on business the past few days and just heard it.It was not me and I sent S&W an email to tell them that.Pretty funny none the less.

I'm sure it was Grid or Stu using my name. More likly Stu but he's been MIA over the past 2 weeks.

Looks like someone on the board is emailing and calling the show as imposters and according to the W&S thread as someone emailed the show as Costanza the other day as well.

You're probably right, but the Hawks were the most popular I can remember in 1992 - five months after the Score came on the air - when they went to the Stanley Cup Finals. The '91 ASG at the old stadium was a high point, too.

You have to remember AF3 that there was a guy wearing a Bulls 23 jersey during the same time period and I think the Bulls were going for their 2 nd or 3rd straight title and the Hawks couldn't get so much as a reporter to cover them even back then.

Mac will agree that 99.9% of the callers back then were Bulls calls and the Hawks were again an after thought. That will change this year as the Bulls will struggle and MJH not being basketball junkies will lead them to talk Hawks.

Someone made a point that B&B will not be Hawks TALKERS but they do give you great Bulls coverage so you have a choice.

Da Coatch was also still around in 1991 and '92 my friends.

Slappy, c'mon my man.

For the first time in Mac's radio career he's excited about hockey? Who gives a shit if the Bulls were great back in the 90s. You're trying to tell me Mackey wasn't jacked for the Hawks when they made it to the NHL finals? He doesn't give a fuck about hoops. Never has, never will - unless he's got a sheckel or two bet on them. Now whether or not sportsradio executives WANT him to talk about hockey is another thing - as Ron Gleason loathed hockey talk on the airwaves.

...and I didn't think that was you dissin' Waddle on the Waddleman Show. The voice didn't have that slight Chicago dialect that I've grown to love in a Slapnut Ed. I just think it was some guy called Ed - and Silvy spit the bit. Or it was Stu taking a work break in the alley behind the Bijou Theater.

....and Mac's radio career started before the Score hit the airwaves. He would get coffee for the Swirsk, and stand toe to toe with Chester and argue his points from behind the glass.

Reading is a skill dare buddy. I never said Mac wasn't jacked about the Hawks in the 90's my point was Jordan and the Bulls were topic #1 back in the Score days and remember also that Bill Wirtz still had the Hawks frozen in the 1960's back then when it came to media coverage and his brilliant idea of "Hawkvision" was in vouge at the time. And you are correct that the douchy Ron Gleason kept hockey talk to about a 2 minute segment. I'm not sure Mac really wanted to talk all that much as he knew back then buttons were punched when it came to talking hockey.

I remember they had Don Cherry and Bill Clement on a few times and Bob Probert called in when he was with the Wings and I believe Cheli came on along with Roenick several times as well but nothing over the top when it came to talking pucks.Im sure Mcfish remembers better than I do ..Here was there , he saw it , stick down , gloves off ,he challenged Ron Gleason. :P

My other point was that it's new ground for talk radio in this town to embrace hockey and the Hawks and Im curious to how MJH and other will approach it.

There is high expectations for the Hawks but i didn't care for last nights game very much as it lacked something and I can't put my finger on it. I just didn't feel the buzz I thought i would and I switched to baseball a few times and to a college football game. I found it boring hockey and Im worried Savard will not last the season as I just don't get the warm and fuzzies with him as coach.I hate saying that because Savvy was my idol growing up and I've met him several times and he's as classy as a guy you'll ever meet. I hope I'm wrong about him but will see.

I'd like to hear Mac's thoughts about it.

Ed, I watched the 1st and 3rd periods, and this was a better team than we've seen in a good while. Not so much dump and chase, more carry the puck. In the first they trailed in shots on goal, in the third they led by a considerable margin in shots on goal. Shoot the puck. That's what we've asked and as the game wore on that's what the Blackhawks did.

No, they're not the "Hit or Die" team of the Keenan era. Early on there were too many unfinished checks, but watching a guy wheel and skate instead of slamming someone into the boards who'd already cleared a pass was something new to adjust to. There's a time to be physical and a time to skate, and Friday night's opener gave me something to feel optimistic about.

For what it's worth, Madison Square Garden just had a face lift. New seats and sight lines, and a new emphasis by management. The Blackhawks didn't get blown out or skated out of the arena, and the game was close until the last goal in the waning minutes put it out of contention.

I'd love Mac to talk more hockey but I'd like Mac to talk hockey in the context of the NHL and not just from the perspective of Chicago. This team has talent, and if they skate hard and play smart they will make the playoffs. From there it's anyone's Cup to hold. We know that and we should acknowledge that.

Unlike any other sport, nothing matches the intensity and focus of the NHL playoffs. So the key is to get to the playoffs, to be healthy and to be focused. In the mean time lets just get behind a team, a product that we can all see and cheer on, and enjoy what should be a great season.

I'll be watching tonight and the next night (and next), and jump at the first opportunity to see them live. I know you'll be doing the same despite the little Chelli "mix-up". He's still a good guy and you are a great one!
