You guys are basically describing a good executive. Fix both sides of the ball and then manage. Lovie never developed a philosophy of offense that could then be executed by an OC. He just randomly picked OCs that would work for him without any regard to a larger philosophy. And I say that as a huge Lovie guy.

Lovie didn't inherit a HoF quarterback, either. You're right, though; Tomlin is from the same cloth as John Harbaugh.

Good comp,. I like it. And I agree Lovie wasn't lucky like Tomlin was at QB. It's just that lovies lack of curiosity about offense irked me. You're not a DC anymore, dude. Look at both sides of the ball.

It's only because he's picking up extra yards via runs and is also a running TD threat in goal line situations. Daniel Jones was hot for some time for the exact same reason.

I don't do fantasy football. However, aren't scoring TDs useful in how they count points? Seems to me that Fields is throwing for and running for TDs recently, right?

Interested in forming a framework for grading Fields in this new-look offense.

Here are some assumptions:

1) Since Fields is being used as a runner now, passing yard expectations have to be reduced. As we know, if you gain 30 yards on designed runs during a drive, that's 30 less possible passing yards you can accumulate.

2) Scrambles should be scrutinized heavily - is he running because the pocket broke down or because he held on longer than necessary? Points given for making something happen when the protection failed; points taken away for scrambling because of misreads, even if he made something happen.

3) Since defenses have to respect the designed run this should open up windows for Fields to throw - he has to hit those throws. Points given for high yardage pass completions/attempts; no points taken away for drops.

All in all, if they continue to run the offense this way, anything above 250 passing yards seems unlikely given the designed runs. Maybe it's best to say something like 175-225 yards passing and 75+ yards running is the baseline expectation, with weights applied on third down conversion throws/runs as well as red zone TDs. Thoughts?

This game is a good representation of the conundrum. Fields "only has" sub 200 passing yards but he's got 150 running. All in all 300+ total yards plus his multiple TDs is a good game for today. It's a different question of whether this is sustainable over the long term due the injury risks JB and others mention.

The Bears won’t do it, but I’d love to see Fields add punting to his repertoire.

You would hope that with teams now going to spy him more that wrs will be able to get open easier and he can make the proper throws.

You’re not going to win games when your quarterback throws for 125 yards

When you score 32 points, you usually win in the NFL

You should win most of your games when the QB is responsible for 300 yards of offense and 3 tds.

Four touchdowns. He also had a rushing touchdown.

At some point he needs it to be more like 240 pass and 60 rush for his own sake. But at least he is starting to show there is potential to be the guy long term. They seemed to have answered that he will be the guy next year and you can draft an OL or LB in round 1.

I honestly don't care how he does it, especially now. I just want to see him continue to make progress. He has done that for the past 5 weeks.

If Fields was throwing to guys like Hill and Waddle it would be 240+ thru the air.

I wonder whether they will even look at drafting o-line now since today’s schemed runs showed he doesn’t need traditional protection.

Jones has made a lot of improvement, but he still needs to get better. Borom's brain is still scrambled 3 weeks later. That's concerning.

Wow, he looks like a different guy and hats off to the bears for recognizing his talents and just unleashing him completely. Something really good going on here and they have the money and draft picks to really back it up.

So we're basically west Baltimore, right? Dual threat QB who's gonna run all over the field.

Kansas City is more like it. Fields looks like he is reading Mahomes how I do it manual.
