In terms of backups, I’d rather take a flyer low-round pick on a guy like Zappe who lit it up at a mid-tier program that a guy at a name brand school who’s always struggled.

I believe the Packers had success for a while. The Patriots too. They would develop a guy just enough to trade him.

Mark Brunell, Aaron Brooks and Matt Hasselback were all drafted by the Packers. Brunell and Brooks got draft picks back and I think Hasselback left as a free agent.

Ty Detmer too. I had no idea.

Yep forgot about him, they turned some later round draft picks into like 2nd and 3rd rounders.

This. I think you still draft a QB later that has some value and you think you can develop. Hopefully Fields can make it through this season with no major injuries but if he continues to play this way he is bound to get hurt and is going to probably need to bulk up a bit in the offseason to take the punishment

I would like them to always be looking for more QB talent. Maybe take a flier on someone like Adrian Martinez, who has a style like Fields (and all the hype as a yout as well), so a coach can preach the same thing to two guys.

I watched a fair amount of Nebraska football over the last 5 years.

Adrian Martinez can't pass consistently at the college level. No chance in the pros.

Many guys weren't consistent in college but became solid pros as they matured. Josh Allen and his inconsistency springs immediately to mind. And that was from watching a number of his games at Wyoming. I sincerely doubt that the overwhelming majority of NFL front office types know wtf they're evaluating with much credibility. See: Brady, Tom /pick #199.

I think it's changed though. If you look at elite QBs from the 2010s onward most seem to be first round picks. The only ones not in the first round that I can remember are as follows:

Brees
Prescott
Wilson

Anyone else?

And I know Brees was drafted way earlier. I'm just saying QBs that have dominated since 2010. Obviously add Brady too to be precise.

I guess if you can spin the backups into future picks, it doesn’t matter if the player is ultimately successful.

Haugh brought up Fields MVP with Brad Biggs.

Haugh - That's why I hate the conversation... because.
Biggs - You guys brought it up?
Haugh - Listen Brad. I'm explaining why I don't like the conversation we're having.
Mulli -You (Haugh) did write the question.
Haugh - I know! I think it's one of these things you have to talk through!

Haugh might be the worst radio person ever. Maybe that's why they pair him with Mully, to make him look better

Your lists lately have been less than precise.

David Haugh is an absolute idiot. Not the worst. That's Carmen DeFelco. But it's a close race. Mully is stupid too. Just not as bad as Haugh.

1. ZZ
2. Haugh

The rest are distantly behind these 2 clowns. I don't recall Mully having overly dumb sports takes....he just can't articulate a complete sentence.

I was leaving work yesterday at 5, start the car up and Parkins & Spiegel had Haugh on
its stupid as shit to have other hosts on as guest on other shows to begin with, let alone that idiot. Like yea, we need MORE of David Haugh.

my thinking was limiting the list to hosts that consistently speak to bad sports takes.
With that....I know he's out of the game, but Tiny has to be #3 on that list. Steve Trachsel was great....Klif Kingsbury was going to be a stud QB. Therio and Fontenot were great. The list goes on....

I've been listening to Holmes a lot more since he's on during the daytime. He takes a long ass time to make largely simple/banal points.

Obviously not a perfect comp with the defense collapsing even more than their already low expectations, but teams are willing to allow the runs unless Fields can show he can pass in the 4th quarter with the game on the line.

Opponents are game planning to give up 30+ points to the Bears each week?

I cant believe teams arent putting 8 in the box and doing exactly that.

The overhyping of Fields after a month of great play, on the ground, is getting out of hand. Folks are seriously talking about Fields being one of the top 3 quarterbacks off the board if a league wide draft were held today. The kid has a cult like following and he hasn't accomplished anything.

They're in love with what he could be and ignoring the work he has in front of him (getting rid of the ball).

I saw that and wonder if that’s him dropping a hint that he wants to pass more but isn’t allowed.

He’s a faster Jackson with Mahomes’ creativity and Allen’s arm.

Top 3 in today’s league isn’t going far enough.

Fields is the man in the third quarter. Even with his bad start of the season. 134 rating, only 2 sacks.
