So, he shouldn't try and run for a first down but rather just ditch the ball out of bounds? Where pray tell are these "open" receivers? In the locker room maybe?

In the NFL, good QBs will often throw the ball before a receiver appears open.

Didn't he do that on the 1st TD? But generally yea he doesn't do that

Kinda hoping someone like Dilfer will drop the love affair with Fields and just rip into him for waiting until people are "open." But it'll probably be more like "Now this play was a plus plus. I've never graded anyone, even Manning or Brady, better than what I'm grading Fields right here. [Parkins drops dead] This reminds me when I took Fields out to Five Guys back in 2018 blah blah blah."

He's comically bad in clutch situations. It's alarming

I don't mind designed runs where he goes out of bounds. But he took on too many tacklers head-on today. That's a recipe for disaster.

I always thought that about Mitchs QB IQ. I don't feel that about Fields. His touch can be bad. If it progresses is the question.

Aaron Rodgers successfully throws the ball before the receivers are even looking.

He has no time to develop a play. The OL is comically bad in clutch situations. Michael Schofield and Sam Mustipher should be cut today. Pathetic!

Bullshit. If you cared about him, you'd demand that he stop playing running back and start playing quarterback. There's a reason QBs who run have a short shelf life. Injury is a certainty.

Dilfer has mentioned multiple times in interviews that Justin needs to realize there’s a difference between college ‘open’ and NFL ‘open’

Personally I think the Bears may have to consider resting Fields for a game due to him being completely gassed. His body is beat up pretty good too I’d imagine. Not sure how they’d have to go about it, but I think it’s something they need to consider.

There’s just no good way atm to develop him as a passer because the O-line is so bad. Maybe just hand the ball off all game, I dunno. But this can’t keep up, he’ll get seriously injured if it does.

No doubt the O-line is weak at pass protection...but doesn't the super-successful running attack and the threat of running counteract that at least a bit? It's like play-action doesn't exist (or work) with the Bears.

At this point, assuming Fields is healthy enough to play, what would be wrong with telling him NOT to run...AT ALL. Either hand off, or make a quick pass, or roll out and pass downfield. The season is mathematically almost over already, so let's work on THROWING. We know he can run...no need to see any more of that this season.

It seems he throws balls off of his o-linemen’s helmets quite a bit. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a quarterback do that at the rate he is. He nearly concussed a guy today. And he’s a big dude, so he should be able to get it over their heads or find a throwing lane.

Roll him out to get receivers open and use him as a decoy when handing off to the running back more. There are ways to limit his running while attempting to improve his pocket presence and timing with his receivers.

They’re already trying to do this.

Rolling a QB out just cuts the field in half. Fields will be the next RG3

You do that when your QB still requires training wheels. That's what (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky needed even in his last years here.

How does rolling him out improve his pocket presence?

Tom Thayer was brutally honest on M&H that the Justin Fields run plays in excess are hindering Fields' passing progress and exposing him to possible future even more severe injuries.

It's obvious. Way too many design run plays. He shown the ability to evade laterally all season. Use his legs for that. It buys him enough time usually to find an eventual breakdown in the defense and get that wide open guy that he so desperately need. Why they keep slamming him forward when we have two great running backs is beyond me.

I'm not sure a vegetarian diet is sufficient for the grind of an NFL season.

Fortunately for Fields his upper body is irrelevant.
