My kids never got less than a 100% from him, on anything, for the rest of the time they were there. He would greet me in the hallways as if his job depended on it. My kids couldn't understand why he acted that way around me. Truthfully, I couldn't understand it either. Besides yelling at the top of his lungs, I didn't hear him say anything extreme. I've always wondered if he crossed a line prior to my arrival.

When I was chairman of the LSC at my kids' grammar school I amusingly often got the same reactions.

Chairing one of my kid's high school LSCs for 3 years reminded me that MANY adults behave just like kids. The emails, phone calls, and text messages I got from teachers and staff was insane. Everyone wanted me to fight the principal for them and support every idea that popped in their heads because of a few changes we were able to make. I had my child's science teacher crying on a Zoom call with me because she wanted me to fire the principal. Lady, I don't have that power, and I have zero interest in creating chaos just because.

I guess it shows how ugly things can get in a school--or any workplace--without good leadership.

But maybe the principal was being a good leader by giving the bad teachers a hard time.

Having filled in at the LSC briefly, I saw it all. I had much the same reaction as you.

I shouldn't have lumped you in with Spaulding and badrogue. That's a pretty big insult.

MANY teachers don't like guidance. MANY of the same teachers also don't like speaking up when given instructions that they disagree with.

Going behind the curtains does make you question a lot about the educational experience your kids have gotten.

They definitely don't like taking direction from people that have never did the work. Which is one of the problems with the CEO/LSC model that is currently in place. Teachers will take direction from people that actually know what they are talking about or at least that has been my experience anyway.

You know, many of us in non-teaching fields, such as Corporate America often find ourself answering to a superior that never did the "work" we did either, but we still have to follow the direction of our superior. But such is the arrogance and ignorance of your typical Chicago Public School teacher.

And that's why "corporate" America Is a rather shitty example to provide CB.

And CPS Teachers help "fund" the numerous "tax breaks, subsidies, and incentives" that Corporate America receives for essentially fucking up the country. But "no one is supposed to ever know".

There are plenty of examples of excellent run companies, where bosses (great bosses/leaders too) do not have the exact skill sets of their subordinates. "This person doesn't know what I know so I don't have to listen to them" is such a narrow minded view but par for the course in our public education system.

And before we get off in the "glorification" that is Corporate America around here, where else but Corporate America can a "leader" do a shitty job and still pocket millions of dollars as part of a severance package? How is that for "meritocracy"? Just Asking Questions

You are currently glorifying a system that "rewards" its leaders with millions of dollars for essentially doing a rather shitty job in a number of cases. Are you really the best person to preach to anyone regarding the virtues of "meritocracy"? Just Asking A Question

And far as LSCs go, most of them aren't really looking for " strong educational leadership" in as much as they are looking for puppets which they can control. Again why would I take direction from such a person when I know that the best interests of children may not be at the forefront of what they are looking for? Again just Asking A Question

The same country where a school superintendent can do a "shitty" job and pocket millions of dollars of taxpayer money via fully funded pension then flee to another state and get another job and do a shitty there.

God bless America.

Nah nice try dude. The biggest thieves in this country can be found in Corporate America. And it ain't even close. You work in an arena that "brags" routinely about how they shit on workers and you are just fine with that. Don't crap me guy.

Thieves in both Corporate America and the Government/Public Sector no doubt. Remember the thievery that went down during COVID when teachers didn't want to do their job of teaching kids?

Thieves in Corporate America rob shareholders, thieving Teachers during COVID robbed children of their futures, what is worse? Just Asking a Question.

Sounds good. Teachers in CPS have to put in sweat equity in order to work in some of the places in which they work. CEOs don't in most cases and neither do their managers either.
They can do a shit job and still be rewarded with millions even as they are being "shown the door".
Again that ain't exactly an example of a"meritocracy"
dude. Too bad that this had to be pointed out to you.

With this being the case then hopefully Corporate America will take mercy on their souls then. "WE" both know that this will not happen don't "WE"? Just Asking A Question

You know there are also quite a few CEO's that make billions and billions for their company/shareholders via their skills and savy. There are winners and losers.

And that's fine when they do. However are there MANY instances of CEOs doing shitty jobs and "winning" even when they are supposed to be "losing". There are also MANY instances of the "winning" being based not so much on their "greatness" as a leader, but based on their ability to secure handouts from Govt. The very same Govt they fallaciously claim to never "need".

Hardly a "meritocracy".

Some teachers don't want guidance that makes them uncomfortable in any way. It doesn't matter if the principal has classroom experience or not. When it comes to the hiring process, you know network chiefs place their thumbs on the scale and paper LSCs fall in line. In other cases, an LSC doesn't exist.

I think giving vested members of the community a voice is important. Far to often, administrators run schools like a dictator. With very little oversight from network chiefs.

I’m the guy that punches Jimmy Stewart in the face in It’s a Wonderful Life

My wife has been teaching for nearly 4 decades, all of it 1st grade. She’s a legend at her school, and still works tirelessly. It’s absolutely amazing to me how a parent of any child could just blow off these conferences. Jesus, is there anything more important than your child? What is more pressing…your job, your fantasy football team? And other than safety and nutrition, what is more important to their future than their education.

You’re telling me you can’t find 15 fucking minutes a fucking year to go and see the kids classroom, look at his work at get some honest feedback of your child, face-to-face with someone that cares for your child. The fuck is wrong with you people.

Look I’m not naïve, not all teachers are good, and some are bad, but most of them care more about your child than obviously some of you do.

That's no longer true. The schools have an agenda.

Why would you punch Jimmy Stewart in the face?

And I'm calling bullshit on the teacher caring more than the parent.

Why would you punch Jimmy Stewart in the face?

I would never punch anybody, least of all Jimmy Stewart. I apologize for offending anyone. I was trying to make a point that you didn't get.

And I'm calling bullshit on the teacher caring more than the parent.

Well you couldn't be more wrong. My wife showed up, most of the parents didn't, so...

Look I get why some people have had bad experiences with schools and teachers, but you are simply ignorant about the dedication and sweat MOST teachers put into their classrooms. And I'm not talking about the School Boards (which if you really care about things you should run for office and have an impact on all things school related)

I'm sorry that your experience with schools and teachers wasn't more pleasant,..and I don't mean that sarcastically
