You can't fat shame her, but you can fat shame a man.

I wouldn't know she existed if conservatives didn't complain or good liberals didn't defend her fat promotion.

As I was watching Mrs. Fezziwig and Mrs. Fezziwig prepare the warehouse for the Christmas Eve celebration, I noticed, in particular, that they took out the funny lines about Fezziwig needing Ebenezer and Dick Wilkins to help him button his waistcoat, as it had "shrunk" in the past year, despite Mrs. Fezziwig also wearing a waistcoat.

I dunno 'bout other cities, but Detroit roads racist AF. No point in Woodward bumping up over 8 mile except to make it uninviting to pedestrians/bikes/non-automobile travelers to cross 8 mile into the suburbs:

When that no longer sufficed to keep people separated, along came I-696 -- a moat without gators, running approximately along 10 mile:

Just like the great wall of the Dan Ryan or I-10 that destroyed and cut off the oldest Black community along Claiborne ave in New Orleans

Nah, that shit's over. The right is done with that foolishness. Everything that idiots do now gets the full treatment.

That's great news for the left. That means they own you.

It's a battle now. Has been since The Hoax. The war of ideas is something the Left wants to tamp down with everything they have and on that that front, at least, the right is winning....so far.

Supreme Court fucked us pretty good on abortion. Be nice if Republicans could seize upon Biden's anti-unionism, but they won't.

You're leading the Grievance Fest. There are no coherent ideas. Just excessive bitching and a blood lust for those who aren't true believers. You lose people who are sympathetic to a cause or 2 by whining about everything.

The Supreme Court gave you what conservatives wanted for generations. Conservatives even took a victory lap and then went for a complete ban at the state level. Because MANY of you live in a bubble, you didn't understand how overreaching would anger a significant portion of the country.

I'm sure Biden would love to have a fight with Republicans about who has done more for unions. That irrational flailing helps Biden in 2024.

That's right. Excessive bitching and blood lust. Learned from the best.

Always interesting to watch the "People hearing the Bee Gees for the first time", or any old school group on YouTube.

The goofs watching the video can't understand it because it's not autotuned, they have been brainwashed into thinking that all music sounds exactly the same.

Laughable to watch two hapless idiots watch "Crazy Train" by Ozzy and be shocked because they thought a rapper who had sampled the song was the original artist, they also thought the rapper actually played the iconic Randy Rhodes solo.

The ongoing quest to dumb down the education system has been an almost unqualified success.

Older generation thinks newer generation of music is bad.

In 30 years, people will be saying "Zobo, who identifies as a Zebra and thinks you are Zebraphobic if you don't think they/them are is not as good as Lizzo was".

Yeah, older people always think something new sucks. I'm not sure Elvis would have had a career if he didn't steal music. The same is true for most of your 80+ year old favorite artists.

While they tend to drift towards more 50s interpretations, anyone who has seen Post Modern Jukebox recast a song into another older genre can't be surprised.

Their remake of Maroon 5's "Maps" as an early 70s soul song (complete with horns and kickass backup singers) is a good example of how everything can really be anything.

What do you mean by "stealing music"? You mean doing cover versions? It's not like Elvis was Page & Plant slapping his name on songs written by others.

No, he just had music executives give him the records, and his version reached more people because of...SOMETHING.

You think the Jews should have performed the songs themselves?

I don't think they were responsible for all of the songs that were written. You've forgotten more about music than I will ever know, so maybe you know more about it than I do.

The kind of thing you're talking about obviously did occur. I just don't see Elvis as a major culprit.

If you want to call shaking his hips the way he did "cultural appropriation", I probably won't argue.

Question for all: Are there any books/articles written about this can of worms? Originality, payment of royalties, etc.? Seems like a hell of a topic to teach about. Only things I have ever read were screeds arguing 100% one way or the other.

He didn't write shit, but he could sing and entertain. Did he "steal" his bit? Probably, but it's still night and day night compared to sampling hooks.

James Brown would probably like a word....his shit his been lifted and stolen more than anyone

Music press types always will ask musicians who their influences were, they will answer in a manner they feel makes them look cooler to whoever they value as a peer group.

Have often heard that most music, especially the basics all come from classical music which was derived mostly from religious based music because it was the form of music most people were exposed to in large groups.

This seems legit as nearly all the old school soul music singers shared the same background, and the modern rap goofs basically steal the old school R&B music and mumble around the catchy stuff the broke old school guys created.

Where did the old religious stuff come from? Likely originated in ancient chants or grunts done in homage to some sun god we lifted from the Neanderthals after we screwed their women and wiped them off the face of the earth.

Maybe Lizzo should do something in homage to Ong the ancient Neanderthal that was the first to chant something that sounded cool to the fire god.

I seem to recall, back in the day, Run DMC's biggest hit to be something borrowed.

It sounded great. Better than the original.

I know nothing about music. Every year I see advertisements for acts that are selling out Wrigley for multiple nights who I have never heard of...not just their music, I am completely unfamiliar with the names.

Doubt she could just go out there with a guitar and no backing tracks and perform like Sister Rosetta.

Must be incredibly frustrating for the members of the old R&B acts at Shady Acres as they hear the stuff they created ripped off by some random producer for some Kardashian sperm donor goof to mumble undecipherable imaginary words over and then be forced to listen to one of the Kardasian's wax on and on about how that goof is a creative genius.

Why do you think talented musicians suddenly disappeared?

Styles change. I'm sure that your parents thought whatever music you liked was sung by people without talent too because they didn't sound like what the musicians they grew up with sounded like.

I can only imagine what my parents actually thought of Eminem, Green Day, Jay-Z, and The Offspring.

I remember thinking Billie Eilish and every other artist my daughters liked sounded like they wanted to kill themselves. They're singing and rapping their hearts out and I'm wondering if I missed something.
