Styles change. I'm sure that your parents thought whatever music you liked was sung by people without talent too because they didn't sound like what the musicians they grew up with sounded like.
I can only imagine what my parents actually thought of Eminem, Green Day, Jay-Z, and The Offspring.
I made a mixed tape of Guns n Roses while on a long car trip with my grandma in the car. She did not like them.
Still, a guy like Eddie Van Halen has a discernable talent that isn't really subjective. Like or hate his product, anyone can see what he is doing with a guitar. I'd say a guy like M and M is the same, although not with an instrument. There are some, and there have probably been in every era, where they are selling nothing and you wonder what is drawing people to them. There is just something about that time and place that what they are connects
