Interesting reads on how the Twitter folks are reacting. Have worked for a few companies that were sold and it is common practice to assess and trim staff, the new owners want their people in decision making positions, been happening forever. However, if you read the odd reactions by the Twitter people in almost total mental breakdown mode because they were being assessed, you would think this is the first time this has ever happened.

Worked for one place that was bought by a well known European "Turn Around" company. Ended up being the guy that was tasked with identifying underperformers, they were pretty interested in individual production spreadsheets and ruthlessly laid off groups of 3-5 people each month until they found a buyer and sold off the entire division.

There was certainly no mass media coverage of this because it was happening all across the nation during the economic downturn when Obama was in office.

Obviously stakes much lower here. Also not everyone who works at Twitter is necessarily a SJW. I'm surprised the engineering and data divisions took a hit as these are usually the core business unit of a software company like Twitter. Usually you tackle support divisions first and then see what other fat you might be able to trim before you get to the core units. A takeover like this was dramatized in season 2 I think of Succession.

However, this is undeniably another horrible decision by Musk. Twitter as a platform allows you to change your name to anything you want that is displayed next to your username/handle that doesn't change and is unique.

Idiots on twitter who are mad at Musk for trolling like he is are turning around and trolling him by changing their name to Elon Musk.

So, Musk has two options:
1) Change the code so you can't change your name to a verified public name(no Musk, Joe Biden, Donald Trump, Joe Orr). Anyone who has it now gets a 1 put after it.
2) Ban people for it.

He can do either option but 1 is clearly the only sane one.

This is the type of reality that the collective mindset social media crap like Twitter, Facebook, and Tik Tok have helped to create.
